poet

i got sound forge 11.

the only thing i despise is i can't zoom in and out while selecting shit. which is how i chop. like i find the start point of the chop by zooming way in to catch it at 0, and then i drag right, but i can't zoom out while trying to drag, so i drag a bit, let go of the click, zoom out a bit, grab and drag, zoom out a bit etc, then i gotta zoom all the way back in. but its mad extra clicks and opportunities for a misclick

might just cop serato or something since i can't get SF8.

but yo when you put that folder together ima flip everything. im sufficiently depressed enough to force myself to make beats again

The Dead Poet 04-20-2019 01:50 PM

really?

I have 10 and it zooms. That's how I chop too. Roll the mouse wheel and it does.

I still haven't started fucking with that folder again lol. But I'll zip up what I have today. There's probably 100+ in it so far. When I'm done, we're probably looking at a good 10 gigs or so.

uh-oh 04-20-2019 01:55 PM

yea i use the mousewheel too, 11 zooms with it as well, but not while you have a click engaged.

im shitty at explanations. i zoom way in with the mousewheel, click where i want a chop to start, hold it and move the mouse right to highlight/drag a selection area. in 8, i could zoom out while having the click engaged and dragging the selection, know what i mean? so i never let go of the click while zooming in/out and dragging. but this isn't letting me zoom out or in while dragging until i let go of the click.

maybe i should get 10?

i remember there being a reason i never moved from 8 though, i thought it was something to do about looping the playback selection but it has those options, i'm guessing this is why i never upgraded

edit- so basically i could highlight/select a much bigger area quickly because i could zoom out while highlighting.

I think I remember seeing one of your Cam vids doing that and thinking that wasn't how I do it.

I zoom way in and hit M to leave a marker then let it play and hit M again to set up a loop. Then double click it to highlight it and hit R for region. When I get all that I want I extract the regions, which I have set up to send them to a folder that opens automatically in my Maschine software.

looks like they have 8 there with only one seeder though. might be worth a shot.

The Dead Poet 04-20-2019 02:03 PM

I have an old harddrive that I think had some programs on it. It might have 8 on it. I'll check today. Was planning on setting up my protools and mics today.

uh-oh 04-20-2019 02:22 PM

word i downloaded 8 again somewhere but it had a bummy keygen that didn't work. i'll look into the others

i just made a quick vid though making a loop since my last post in this thread upping now lol.

uh-oh 04-20-2019 02:35 PM

That shit is fire tbh

uh-oh 04-21-2019 05:36 AM

thanks dog. that video is more of an example of my entire process lol.

the only thing i do differently sometimes is i'll look for a sample first, and build the drums to the sample. but since i've been dreading digging for samples and was bored, i just built a drum track while making and viewing this thread, then decided i'd record me browsing youtube/twitter for something to flip/play with over top the drum loop i made

The Dead Poet 04-21-2019 02:36 PM

checking this now. What program you using?

uh-oh 04-21-2019 03:02 PM

to record? some free "obs studio" thing. i was surprised finding it cuz i remember how difficult shit used to be trying to find screen recorders and shit

but word it works recording the audio off my interface and everything like its stereo mix or whatever

The Dead Poet 04-21-2019 04:01 PM

yea, I kind of want to do one. At the very least to show you my process. It's pretty much the main reason I watch those rhythm roulettes and those on the spot beat making vids. It's a trip to see how different each persons process is. Not sure how mine would work though since I use hardware. Well I guess you can see the software so you'd get the gist of it.

uh-oh 04-21-2019 04:10 PM

yea it should work for the maschine software at least, if its like the mpc software. only time i was touching hardware in these was just tapping the bass towards the end but in this one i even drew that in in the piano roll lol.

the fire is cool for some shit but its still just easier to use the mouse for 99 percent of FL.

The Dead Poet 04-21-2019 04:14 PM

I hardly even look at the software other than when I need to fix my shitty playing of bass and keys in general lol.

uh-oh 04-21-2019 04:45 PM

word, i'm sure it tracks what you're doing though so it'd work for screen recording. thats what i meant when i mentioned the MPC software, cuz it all basically just real time worked the software on the screen if that makes sense.

i enjoyed the mpc workflow but it was definitely slower for me, which is why i wanted to go the maschine route, but i skimped and wanted to give the fire a shot. now im probably just gonna stack for awhile and stick with FL but when the time comes and i get the hardware itch it'll be all out NI shit
