is russel peters dope? i know he has a gigantic following but everytime he's on a podcast i feel like he's SHIT. like i mean everyone else likes him but he's always trying to talk about how he's a dj and thinks he's in the know cuz he knows what technic's are.

tom segura is a G. im not HUGE on his standup but he has some solid bits

burress is dope

bill burr is probably my favorite doing it

louies first 5 dollar special was dope, theyve consistently gotten worse since that

uhh

word man other than all the obvious old shit thats pretty much it. i mean there is kevin hart, but his shit is like louies, his special where he had the white water rafting and the gorilla in the zoo bits was dope, but since then he's got worse and more hacky

Adonis 09-19-2014 09:57 AM

The red white & brown tour slayed me, the other stuff I've seen of him is nowhere near as good though and at times he has def been decisively unfunny. But red white and brown redeems all

Plot 09-19-2014 11:45 AM

TIM VINE

Dave Chappelle and Mitch Hedberg are classics.

Also, Daniel Tosh has good standup. Offensive and Hella funny.

Split 09-19-2014 01:07 PM

Daniel Tosh one of the GOATs for stand-up

I'll support Eddie Murphy, Chappelle, Moshe Kasher

Fuck carlin tho

cosigning burr, chappelle, pryor, hedberg, murphy and hannibal burress

Witty 09-19-2014 03:32 PM

Dennis Leary was funny, shame he bit from Bill Hicks tho.

Inspired a great quote tho, when asked why he quit smoking, bill hicks replied 'because i wanted to see if Dennis would quit too'

Answer 09-19-2014 07:02 PM

It really all depends on what you're looking for.

Highly Recommended:

Jimmy Carr is my personal favorite comedian. He's got a lot of specials (he used to do one every year) but he does oversaturate his material which hurts him a little bit. He's more of a wordsmith than a comedian, 90% of his material is offensive one liners which I admit can get redundant. The reason he's my favorite comedian is simply how well he pulls off crowd interaction off the top of his head. Some of his retorts to hecklers are pure gold. I prefer his original shows "Live", "Stand Up" & "Comedian"

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TkMWRkWkwXk

Kyle Cease has a weird style that some people might find annoying, but I personally love it. His jokes can get really weird and abstract, so I definitely understand it not being everyone's cup of tea - but he's also amazingly good at addressing hecklers if you can find his footage on youtube. I reccommend his special "Weirder, Blacker, Dimpler". He has another newer stand up that I want to watch, but I haven't been able to find a full version online. He's not very politically incorrect, but he's not 100% clean either

Daniel Tosh is somewhere between Jimmy Carr and Kyle Cease. He has some weird comedy, but he also has some punchy oneliners, and mostly takes a politically incorrect stance. "Completely Serious" is his best special imo

Brian Regan is 100% clean, and he's definitely my favorite clean comedian. He mostly does observational humor but takes the self deprecating approach. He does have a pretty wide variety of topics though. My favorite special of his is "I walked on the Moon"

Bill Burr is funny, but I prefer watching him for his personal perspective on things. He primarily talks about his own stances and general observational humor on controversial topics e.g. racism, abuse, guns, etc.

Dave Chappelle is a great storyteller. I enjoy him primarily because of his creativity and ability to come up with outlandish ideas. A lot of his shit is fictional for the sake of humor

Louis C.K. is somewhere between Chapelle and Bill Burr, leaning a little more towards Bill Burr. He tends to go for shock value and politically incorrect shit. His general style of joke telling/delivery is a little bit redundant. His specials were getting kind of shitty in my opinion as he got more famous, but his newest special "Oh my God" is actually really good

Gabriel Iglesias - I'm pretty sure he's entirely clean (I might be wrong) but if not, he's damn close. He does a lot of great sound effects and impressions, and while he is just a tad over the top - it comes off as entertaining more than it does corny (see: Robin Williams)

In the middle:

Mitch Hedburg: Nobody gave a fuck about Hedburg until he died. He's a funny dude...half of the time. I like his delivery for jokes, but he's nothing but one liners, and I admit that some of them kind of suck. But then again, some of them are absolute gold. There are better one-liner guys out there in my opinion. I didn't mention him, but if you like this kind of weird abstract one-liner style, Steven Wright is the man.

Jim Jeffries talks about his own life a lot, but he actually lives an interesting life full of coke, strippers, and vibrators that he shoves up his asshole. I almost put him in the highly recommended section, but he does get a little boring after a while.

Mike Birbiglia is funny, but not really laugh out loud funny. His jokes are pretty cookie cutter and his deliver is practically non existent. He talks about his own life and experiences a lot. Worth watching, but there's much better.

Carlin rarely makes me laugh, but I like to see the perspective of the world coming from an older dude. Especially in his later stand ups. He talks about aging and death from an old person's perspective which is unique in the comedy world

Not a fan of:

Robin Williams is a bit too animated and over the top. He relies on impressions and silly stuff that I would imagine a 5 year old to find entertaining, but doesn't really pique my interest

Russell Peters is like one of the most hacky guys out there. Admittedly, I'll watch his stand ups from time to time, but truthfully practically all of his content is about race and most of his jokes are so cliche that they're analagous to da feet lines

There's a hell of a lot more I could list, but I'm gonna stop. This is a crazy long post - but I'm a huge fan of Stand Up, so I could go on for days (I do Stand Up as well, so I try to watch as much as possible and learn some things)

Incorrect.

Soon the industry plugged him into its big-money promotion cycle: Letterman booked him compulsively on the Late Show, Variety named him one of its "10 comics to watch," and Fox signed him to a half-million-dollar sitcom deal. In 1998, when Seinfeld swaggered out of America's national living room, Hedberg was on many critics' shortlist of successors. Time magazine actually said it: "the next Seinfeld."
