do you plan when you write verses?
 

Like I always have a way to intensify certaiin punches

If u read with understand and can somewhat catch the flow, which I can tell who does based off how they break my verse down, the punch will just HIT seemingly at perfect timing. Its gone seem like the best shit ever

I start with nameplays. Try to get 1-2 of em and get my mind thinkin creative. Thats about it.

No gameplan.

I just write when A) I have the time and B) When I'm in the mood to write for who I'm battling.

Normally it will just be an idea for a play that will pop up in my head, then the rest just starts to fall into place from that idea..

I gather concepts first

I think everyone does that tbh. Like a lot of people will put their best punches at the beginning and end of their verses.

If it's a track will shift and move lines so the verse has a cohesive progression, especially if it's a story piece.

Back when writing was fun to do, u had discussions about writing. Maybe its just me, but we don't discuss writing on this board

I think more discussions would make votng better overall. Writing too, an appreciation of the writings being presented

Discussing writing in general and improving comprehension skills of the writings go hand and hand

Dude people don't even depend on set up lines... Some don't even get lines when the set up is in the first line aka the set up

The worse thing is when you see people be overly critica about certain parts of your versel, then you read some of that persons work and see that it suffers from the same problems they were pointing out on your's, and then some. How can you confidently critic somebody elses and offer advice work when you can't even implement it into your own?

Once you get good you don't really need to think because it just becomes your way of writing. Back when I battled heavily I was constantly looking for concepts or things to flip into punches. It's easier when you have a couple of personal things to attack and apply your concept search to. All battles and verses are their own, with different situations and nuances that can be applied. Some audiences prefer comedy. Some like being rugged. Wit is always needed, and turning some plays that no one has thought of.

I always decided what kind of style would work best before I started a verse. The first line is important, because it set the tone for me. If my first bar was amazing, then it gave me something to build off of. I don't like when writers write one bar, one bar and nothing really ties together. A good battle verse to me personally is one that hits hard with individual bars, but is better viewed as a whole. Most net battlers don't see things that way.
