PancakeBrah 07-13-2013 12:22 AM

let's collab then.

i just thought your direction (nuanced and positive) against mine (minimalist, stereotypical, personal) would've been nice.

Split 07-13-2013 12:31 AM

lol I was expecting to wake up to a 40 line Boston diss piece

hit me with a verse/ topic and I'll match, or I'll send a verse when I manage to think of a topic I like

PancakeBrah 07-13-2013 12:58 AM

Did you copy that right-aligned quote shit in your sig from English on purpose or just by coincidence?

idk, your whole boarding existence from your roast seems calculated. Even your improved open mic pieces seem purposeful, to me.

Split 07-13-2013 01:11 AM

i'm new English, you see

hahah explain?

idk as ive gotten better at writing i feel like i have less i wanna write about

when i started topicals, i had all this shit i wanted to put into words, and connections/concepts i hadnt seen anyone do before, and so i did so (badly) in large volumes.
now, it's like I write something and it's so edited and re-processed to say something exactly how i want, that I don't care if I say it at all

unless I'm actually inspired for a verse, in which case I can deliver something lukewarm dope

so I'm caught between writing to stay in practice, and waiting for inspiration. maybe I need a bad breakup or to murder some dudes in cold blood idk

PancakeBrah 07-13-2013 01:24 AM

I read your piece with that black/white pic accompaniment with the spanish or whatever. It was good. But compared to your first few verses/open mics/s&f's, it's like a different person. Zero accusation of biting here, I'm just wondering if you had a particular style of writing (which you did) that then changed to become more feed friendly. I often recall your reaction to your roasting. Seemed almost open to criticism, saw the general tenor of the board, and reacted to it. You're a smart dude but you seem like a conformist.

well, the black/white pic was for a poetry playoffs, which I treat completely separate from topicals.. except I like to rhyme more, now

in general. i think ive been refining my style... like this is from a verse from probably October

Time flies, tied up in pride. Dragging by. Pillfull of anti-depressants, shout in St. Doubt's Basilica, pounce--
Tagged out at half-time. It's willful, huh? "Milk it, cuz. We'll build it up, more asinine,"
If DJ Illwill don't get you pussy- a jog down first baselines- you're a goner, past your prime.
I mean, no doubt ^^that^^ was my style, but it did waste a shit-ton of syllables and rhymed sporadically, OM readers generally "had no idea what the fuck I was talking about". so i tried to cut down/ clarify which definitely cut 95% of the bulk out of my verses.. and was certainly inspired by some writers (like you were by say, Black), but I still develop my stuff the same way

and back when i joined i was trying to be as funny as i could, and tried to appeal to the general sense of humor here, like i do with any group of friends... maybe all that comes across as "changing to fit in"

but i dont post anything I wouldn't consider authentic, and i def don't think you can point to my writing and say "Oh this is ___'s style" or "Split took this from ___"

and i definitely don't give a fuck if I'm feed-friendly lol.

I think you do.

Split 07-13-2013 02:06 AM

funny, someone else told me my writing completely changed and became boring

im going to get hammered and craft a magnum opus

die in a fire

PancakeBrah 07-13-2013 02:09 AM

Ok send it to me. We'll rework it and make it a suitable collab.

Split 07-13-2013 03:32 AM

i railed a lot of Capt Morgans and have an entire verse

you asked for this

Witty 07-13-2013 06:51 AM

Shouldn't all writers be recreating themselves at all times? That's how you keep it fresh and stay relevant.

And let's not front like we don't care whether people like our shit or not because there would be no reason to post in OM if that was true.
