CONGRATS TO LARS FOR WINNING THE INAUGURAL WINTER TOPICAL (srs this time)

He beat dead man in the Finals 8-6. To get to the finals he beat Objective, Certain, Pent up (NS), and Vulgar. Well deserved, especially with that list of writers.

Thanks to everyone for making this tournament the success it was. Props to dead man for making the Finals.

Congrats @Lars

Lars 03-10-2014 09:20 AM

DOPESAUCE

I haven't really stayed in a league for an extended period or entered a tourney for several years, so to win a big one like this after a long time out the game is brilliant.

Props to Dead Man for representing the M to the fullest, we're the hardest topical outfit there is, but honestly I think every match from the Quarter Finals to the finish line could have headlined the tourney, personally. It was stacked with just about everyone who's anyone still writing involved.

Do I win a lime green tee and headphones or what?

Paradigm 03-10-2014 09:22 AM

Congrats Lars

I'm gonna keep it real though, @Objective we cool but you need to step your vote game up. How you gonna tell me my rhyming is basic?

Do you even multies bro?

I keep a dual scheme running right throughout my verses, it's unquestionably difficult to do and I can see why you wouldn't notice it as you're a polysyllabic rhymer - I can at least appreciate that because it's something I couldn't force myself to do nowadays, but in a match of this magnitude, if you had cost me that match I'd have been pissed. The voters should know what they're voting on IMHO.

You don't get someone who swims in his local baths once a week judging the Olympic diving, feel me?

I kept my mouth shut while the battle was happening, but that def. needs addressing for future tourneys...

Vulgar 03-10-2014 03:47 PM

Beast mode.

Yes, to use the example he gave:

With oxygen, Earth became more tenantable still
but lots of our early ancestors would be killed.

I could see someone complaining about the end rhyme, but that ignores the "oxygen, Earth be-"/"lots of our early" rhyme that is rather difficult, subtle and well-executed.

Congrats. You definetly how to tell story's......wiith every post

Objective 03-10-2014 04:09 PM

Word @Lars and I see your point completely. Should have paid more attention to that, specially to that match, or not voted at all. At a second read through I see it clearly. Not going to come with any excuses, but I had been awake for 30+ hours (I did think about not voting since I don't see things as clearly as I should when I don't sleep) so I paid more attention to the story at hand and I had to do my share of voting. That said, even after the second read through, I'd still have voted for Dead Man so it wouldn't have changed much when it comes down to it though it was a more enjoyable read this time around.

Either way; Congratulations with the win, it was fully deserved. Could have gone either way, I just enjoyed Dead Mans verse slightly more and I can understand without doubt why people voted for you. Well done.

Objective 03-10-2014 04:14 PM

And about my rhymeschemes being wack as fuck and poly throughout; that's going to change once I get back to my usual self. Probably not really great, but at least not at a the basic level I've had lately.

Lars 03-10-2014 04:17 PM

Word man, I've nothing but respect for you as you're a fellow Battle Royale enthusiast and all... but I'd have been pissed off if that had cost me the win.

Still, no harm, no foul. Props to @dead man on making it one of the best topical tourney finals in recent memory.

Nah, I didn't say wack as fuck, don't get it twisted. I can't write that way so I can actually appreciate it when people do. Just Write and Diode are two writers not entirely different stylistically from you, and they fair really well in these things, so it certainly isn't wack and I wouldn't call it that.

I was giving you props.

dude real talk...i STAY doing this and you lames don't see it. revisit anthony and my topical finals.

stay classy.

Objective 03-10-2014 04:21 PM

Yeah, I can definitely see how that would have pissed you off, or anyone for that matter. And thanks btw, but I'm far from satisfied with my rhymeschemes myself so I just assumed you/people in general thought it was wack as well, haha. Not my intention to put words in your mouth, my bad. See you around.

Is that archived here? I wasn't around for it.

Join the league and show your prowess. Claim the championship that is rightfully yours.

Lars 03-10-2014 04:26 PM

lmao I wrote for bags in the finals

dead man 03-10-2014 04:27 PM

Not to call anyone out and certainly not to draw shine from baron..I wasn't terribly fond of all the votes we received either, but this is a game of subjectivity so that's how it rolls.

Congrats again bramigo.

Lars 03-10-2014 04:34 PM

name names bruh

i honestly don't mind, I've got my opinions and I voice them, if people aren't aware the same things will go unaddressed again imho

Lmao. U wish that was true. It would make it easier for you to accept huh?

Lars 03-10-2014 05:09 PM

lmao I tend to PM my opponents when we've posted (before any votes have come in) and explain what strategy I've used against them that week, and why

ppl think topicals is all about pitting one story against another

its not as simple as that

know your opponent, find their weakness, then exploit it by doing everything they don't do well, REALLY WELL

for some ppl its all about the writing and pushing themselves

for me its the winning

I go into every match with a diff strategy in mind tailored to my opposition

it doesn't always work, but the more you know them, the better equipped you are

its why I shine against tougher opponents but not so much the lesser ones

against lesser knowns maybe I slack a little too which is a problem, as I leave myself liable to upsets, but usually my writings clean enough to dispose of them

against the known dope heads though i'll always be a problem due to me knowing which strategy will suit my opponent best

I don't think I've ever been shut out, even in relatively 'close' battles i'll always get a vote because of my strategizing

just something to bear in mind if you're a competitive writer

Interesting. I thought your verse was better than your strategy against me. Your verse was an excellent take on a tough topic, but strategically, it'd have been better to focus on emotion when going against me.

You definitely deserved every victory in the tournament, even as I voted against you in that title match. That was more a matter of preference than anything.

Lars 03-10-2014 05:18 PM

I disagree, I've read your little ballerina ish before years ago so you def. have that to your arsenal.

I don't think you're as reliant, technically, on multies and rhyme scheme as I am, so I chose to make that more prominent in mine to showcase what I was doing.

Infact, there was a point in your verse where I saw you had made it more a multi-string in yours and thought you had done that deliberatly to counteract what I would do.

I laughed as I read it, maybe it was unintentional, but there you have it.

Your writing is way too formal at times, too, IMHO so I deliberately opened with something really informal sounding in the "for arguments sake, lets call 'em Alpha and Bet" thing.

It's only a slight thing, but hey, it worked...

Diode 03-10-2014 05:22 PM

i do a much less involved version of what lars does

i read my opponent's verse and base my level of effort off of that

this can backfire if you have no idea your opponent posted already and you are expecting a no show

Eŋg 03-10-2014 05:30 PM

yea some of the votes sucked - i thought frank got robbed tbh.

unstoppable hof.

That's interesting. I sort of flipped that with the verse I just dropped in Open Mic, the lead at least. But "The Perfect Ballerina" was written so long ago that my writing is nothing like that anymore. I was much more raw and provocative back then. I probably was better.
