When I was eight or nine, I was visiting a friend who lived in Hammels and playing ball at the outdoor court there. Some crackhead then threw her infant child out of the 10th-story window in a building about 300 yards away from us. Luckily, we didn't see that shit. It made the news, though. My mom didn't let me go back to Hammels for a while after that, but my friends who lived there liked coming to our house anyway since it was nicer. Pretty much anything is.

And yeah, when you factor in the damage from Sandy, it's only gotten worse. I was back in Rockaway this summer for the first time in a few years. It's sad.
