Situation: Netcees comes back.
What's the fallout?
The dramatic dip in both discussion activity and actual battling here is obvious. Many 'vets' didn't make the transition and the majority that do post apathetically. Battling is almost non-existent (although my personal bias towards not giving a shit about battling may shade this statement) even with a legit tournament running. There's a new topic everyday with a poster either stating this site isn't near the level of netcees or a poster 'retiring' (lol Orco). Open mic and the topical scene is suprisingly strong (personal bias again, maybe), but that is not the lifeblood of a successful text site. Battling is the action, and discussion is the pulse of the site's activity. General malaise hovers over everything. The argument would be that text in it's entirety has been in a downward spiral for half of a decade, and netcees death just showed the true level of the lack of interest. So even if netcees came back, would it be close to it's former self? In no way would it return 100%; this is a fact. The question is how damaging is the loss. Each day an unknown lost percent occurs. I think netcees death was the symbolic death of text. I do not see a revival. A true revival is stemmed from real life events and the splintered nature of modern music (individualism) prevents a watershed '8 Mile' revival. Your thoughts? |
shut the fuck up about netcees.. dam.
|
My thoughts are that most of them "vets" who are hating on this site are just missing the power they had at netcees. I loved netcees of course but its all good I go with the flow.
|
its up to the poster man...you guys wanna battle?
why not step to the next level and do some SUNDAY NIGHT battlefest... two dudes on tinychatt..going head to head acapella... exactly like KOTD or one of them sites... except with former text battlers...im sure after all these years of text battling the majority of you can spit a rhyme. but thats it tho.. most people who cared have moved on to the next level..it doesnt matter what site it is here, netcees, ria, upn what ever either adapt or be obsolete |
who had power on netcees? rofl
|
The mods. Bags etc... but also those who felt like they had netcees around they fingers are very salty about they influence here. But I do agree the discussion section of this site is not as fun...

For me personally, netcees was an accumulation. Sure it had it's home grown talent, such as Hush & a few others but really it was more of a reunion place, in the sense it hosted this great archive for people to look back on and see where this shit started. Back in 2001, there was a hundred different e z boards and you had major domains all competing with one another. You had options. You could go to such and such site with a 1000 members and everything was tightknit, then you had sites with over 20,000 members where making a name for yourself would prove to be more difficult. I stopped posting on message boards like 2006, when I came back in 2011 I couldn't find my old stomping grounds so I said what's left? Netcees took advantage of the demographic. Yea Urban prowlers and Rapmusic are still around but they were always elitist and had long lost that appeal.
Personally Netcees was just another chapter in my long journey through the world wide web. I could imagine dudes being sad if that was the only place they were recognized from. That wasn't my case. I champed leagues in different eras on different sites. Artofbattling.com. Netcees.com. There is no difference for me personally speaking. |
im still muffdagawd
ucantstopthis |
pretty much whoever was active on NCs is active here now. but we dont have old writers/ battlers popping through, and we dont (right now) have the discussion board as where stuff for battles comes from... people talked about ridiculous things then they became concepts and that was cool
EDIT: like jamaican shower posse, that leaned me but yeah, text battling is kinda dead but its been dying im not really that upset about it, except this discussion board isnt atm as active o well. shit happens. this place'll be active soon enough |
why we should be thankful we're on AOB

Gow an joe metts started this site.....gow owns
Tyson u cant be.delusional enuff to think i couldnt be an admin here if i so choose? I dont want to be.... An yea....i had predicted the death of text when we were still posting in one thread Just merge the site with PR they have about the same amount of members an they have the old retired vets popping back in from time to time which helps.....this place suffers from no new or old people coming here.....u need sumhow to direct traffic here....or just merge wit PR activity would increase an beef would be cool for like a month or 2 |
PR attracts 0 new people though, outside of NC refugees
|
I remember in a thread awhile back gow saying he was going to buy ncs domain name to redirect people going to ncs to here. So that could bring new people but with 200 members this quick the sites doing just fine

I am curious tho to the 1-2 new people......how did u find this place? |
My thoughts..
Everyone needs to quit being lazy about it. Even I've noticed a lack of motivation in myself. Vet activity as a whole has definitely declined, get active or get over it and watch it die. Fuck it |

maybe we should start advertising in sigs on RapMusic lol. they always seem to draw in noobs but this place'll be shitty with only new folks, which is why vets shoulda hung around a little bit. even Neighbor, Swerve, ill-nik-a, Cashius just straight went ghost |
I've been steady bringing in people man. Plenty are interested as far as i can see. This place is better than i thought it'd be when everyone first camehere from nc. I thought it'd be like 30 members. Its kicking ass as far as I'm concerned.

210 members in a month, 80 of which are active almost every day, is really good for a young site IMO PATIENCE |
Merge ria lb upn and this site
E beef forever, more activity |

this, i think the site is doing well. i think all the people saying text is dead is the reason its dying. why not bring it back to life. u gon be on the net anyway u gon be here. or u gon be at another site. do somehting useful and contribute to the movement. its not abut battling or toicals its about writing.,,,writing wont ever die we just got to make this platform for it dope again |

I hear u Cake.
But idgaf about anything that happens text wise from here on out. This is all just a sign... I'ma just ride the wave til the absolute end. 1. |
People need to stop whining and contribute more. Go vote on the B2B battle that's open for votes. Go vote on the line for line cypher in that forum. You can't complain about the battle scene being dead if you're doing nothing to liven it up.
|
everyone will leave here and return, of course.

who owns PR? diode? |
Texting aint dead... Some of the Vets are clearly nostalgic and missing the comfort zone. This site been up like a month or summin?? And it has this many hits/members/ activity. Thats good. An if you could get the netcees domain name even better.
To be honest I don't even read any of these threads anymore, totally bored of the whole (text is dying/netcees was better/theres no new people/theres no old people/we dont want too many new people/blah blah ) An I dont think you can paint @Orc with the same brush of all this dramatic shit. The dude was a beast and champed for too long on too many different platforms and got bored. But its swings and round abouts he will come back he just needs a chill. |

I've heard "text is dying" since '02. Netcees was born from the death of bragginwrites (I believe, right?) - either way, whatever site it came from, first was started after bboys crashed. I seen a half dozen sites come and go - sometimes they 'bounceback' (bboys in 03ish), sometimes they move sites (bboys in 05ish or whatever - crashed and projectrhyme started). sometimes they never come back to their original state (rapworld lol). The 'rebuilding' process always sucks, but I have never seen the process executed as fast as it has been here. Everything has peaks and valleys, without valleys there would be no peaks. As long as there are keyboards and forums, there will be text battles and topicals. |
