Masaii 12-11-2013 11:34 PM

I think it has reached a point in the music industry in general where you dont have to be talentedlike you did many yrs ago, beatles, johnny cash, elvis etc....now all you need is to be able to sell sex....have big tits and a pretty face if you're a pop star.

I cant listen to the radio, havent done so in over 10 years, it does my head in with all the recycled crap, once youve heard one song about getting drunk youve heard them all...and who cares how big your house is or your 10x mistress'?

I prefer timeless classics now such as movie scores and orchestral pieces. They inspire me more than 'regular' music anyway, which is why we all listen to music in the first place isnt it?

I think what you're not realizing is there were pretty pop stars back then, too. Think about disco. Mindless music has existed forever, but it doesn't stay relevant, so only the good stuff gets remembered. If you go back and look at the No. 1 hits of the 1960s and 1970s, you'll see a mix of respected and memorable acts and groups you've probably never heard of, at least other than their one big song.

In 40 years, they'll be talking wistfully about the days when Arcade Fire and Adele and Jay-Z were big-named musical acts. They'll have forgotten about fun. and Demi Lovato and 2Chainz.

Aesthetic 12-12-2013 12:01 AM

Check out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u2W1Wi2U9sQ Tchaikovsky, one of the most brilliant musicians to bless stage.

keyword: respected.

none of these musicians now deserve respect. i'm starting to lose respect for Jay-Z with every new album he's released after the Black Album. Adele's cool tho, her last album was a classic tbh. all these people just are out to make pop music, Jay-Z included, Adele doesn't really hope to make it. she is IT. she can make the industry go her, Jay Z doing pop shit on songs and getting outshined by Justin Timberlake on both now

Split 12-12-2013 12:28 AM

Canon in D

every time i hear that i wonder why i listen to a lot of the 'ish i listen to, and then i think about what an amazing beat it would make with a BASIC drum pattern layered on top of it, and then i remember Coolio attempted that and, while i still somehow liked it enough at the time to cop the single due to the music alone, i shed a solitary tear for the fact that it really wasn't even close to doing the canon justice. lol

PancakeBrah 12-12-2013 09:11 AM

Chance the Rapper is the only rap I enjoy nowadays.

Just C 12-12-2013 10:08 AM

I Don't understand how hip hop isn't real music. Old people used to say this about rock and roll back in the 50's.

Maybe you're just going the way of the fuddy duddy like every past generation to say "That's not musics, that's noise!" when ever a new style or sound is popular.

baroque music was the boy band pop music of the era.

just saying.

Greed 12-12-2013 11:56 AM

Classical really does translate better. A lot of Baroque sounds like easy-listening.

Masaii 12-12-2013 12:28 PM

Classical is a universal language.

Example; westerners listen to k-pop and laugh and think wtf? Koreans may listen to rock and laugh and think wtf?? All cultures listen to classical/scores and enjoy

uh-oh 12-12-2013 01:32 PM

terrible argument^

people in every culture respect every music. k-pop im assuming is korean POP music. every culture likes pop music.

movie scores are dope. classical music is alright

hip-hop>

uh-oh 12-12-2013 01:44 PM

but lol at hip hops all money and cars. thats a ridiculous statement

we listen to music because it feels good.

hip hop is my favorite genre, but it only counts for about 10 percent of what i listen to.

i listen to soul music alot. i don't relate to all the lovey dovey shit. i listen to black gospel alot. i don't relate to jesus talk. i just enjoy the MUSIC. its dope

hip hop is dope, and i relate to alot of it, cuz im a broke kid from the slums. i listen to broke dudes from the slums. i listen to old blues. real blues. i relate to alot of that. cuz im in a constant state of depression and the guitars sing to my soul, the same way a premier loop captures the grittiness of the modern world

i can listen to classical and appreciate it for what it is.

the only music i CAN'T appreciate is jazz. i can't fuck with the unstructured randomness of it. its ever evolving garbage in motion to me. skippidy skat skipity skat bah bowww. stfu and learn to play that trumpet so your not just being a faggot and not playing along with anybody

my point is, all music is dope. all music is real. even if you don't like it.

quit being a faggot

uh-oh 12-12-2013 04:28 PM

lol, i dont like it. but just because i dont like it i dont look at it as "not real music"

Natural 12-12-2013 04:39 PM

What goes up must eventually come down
That includes every artist.
One day whoever you're favorite artist is
Will be not as good as he/she once was
And will be left with nothing but making money
That's the day that artists conforms.

Its inevitable.

As for other music......the only way you can explain it
Is that more of todays generation are getting into the
Business for the money....not so much for the competition

Ghost1 12-12-2013 04:46 PM

word? personally i just can't imagine boy band pop music inspiring several other genres of music eras from now.

but hey, maybe you're right and I should start holding boy band pop music in higher regard.

study music history instead of making snide comments and you might learn a thing or two.

baroque was seen as exaggerated yet simplistic, most of the techniques used were extremely basic and monotonous, then padded with excessive flourishes to make them seem more impressive than they actually are. add in a ton of ornamentation to cover up mistakes / lack of talent and there you have it. the sampling and autotune of the era.

it's fraud music.

Zen 12-12-2013 05:19 PM

Guys, its just music. If its good then listen to it.

I like Canon in D because of a feeling, not because of the popular consensus of their day which you studied in school.

veritas 12-12-2013 05:29 PM

well I am listening to that symphony of sorrowful songs in the OP and I do not know what this lady is saying, but I think it is literally the most beautiful thing I have ever heard.

Classical > every other genre.

It has nothing to do with "what was studied on school" and everything to do with choosing to listen to that peurile garbage over real "classical" music.

Friendly reminder, all i said originally was I enjoy Canon in D.

My soul decides my music for me. I feel it jumpin inside when something resonates. Perhaps you choose your music differently, or perhaps your soul has a more discerning ear.

I also often enjoy a good cab-merlot blend vs. a cab or merlot itself...

i recognize it's not as pure or true to form, but no connoisseur's rationale will change my taste, bud.

Texcellence 12-12-2013 06:46 PM

What an amazingly closed minded question..

Witty 12-12-2013 06:48 PM

Yeah it really is silly to argue about what sounds people enjoy in their ears, and to try and say people shouldn't like a certain sound in their ear.

Classical music sucks balls tho.

Texcellence 12-12-2013 06:54 PM

If you want to chill out and listen to classical music, cool but don't question other peoples choice of chill out music. I hate that shit..

The point is to be open minded and listen to whatever suits your mood. You can also find some great blended genres. Hidden Beach do great Jazz covers of Rap songs, for example.
