Playoffs Round 1 chat and predictions

As we have stated all season, seeding for the playoffs was decided based on strength of victory. This was done by calculating win totals for the people each person beat. Vulgar was given the top seed as the season champion, but otherwise all of this was calculated strictly based on that. YDK gets the last spot because he had the best set of three victories among the seven people with three victories.

Round 1:

No. 5 @PancakeBrah vs. No. 12 @YDK: "You Must Love Me"
No. 6 @Frank vs. No. 11 @patrown: "Never Change"
No. 7 @NYCSPITZ vs. No. 10 @breathless: "Coming of Age"
No. 8 @Mike Wrecka vs. No. 9 @Diode: "Moment of Clarity"

Byes: No. 1 @Vulgar, No. 2 @Vividlyvague, No. 3 @Certain and No. 4 @Mr. J.

Battle threads with topics will be posted tonight. I'm going to try to do something nicer looking in Photoshop tonight, too.

Commence discussion and speculation and whatever else you do.

Here's your quick look back at Week 10 results:

Title Match: Vulgar (6-2) won via PancakeBrah (6-2) no-show.
Vividlyvague (7-3) beat Frank (6-4) 5-0.
NYCSPITZ (5-3) beat Certain (7-3) 6-0.
Mr. J (6-4) won via Mike Wrecka (5-5) no-show.
Diode (5-0) beat ThisisDAM (3-1) 5-4.
patrown (4-3) beat Adonis (3-6) 5-3.
breathless (4-5) beat Buddha (3-5) 6-3.
ZYG (3-2) won via Pinot Grij (0-1) no-show.
Mordycai (2-1) beat Nigma (0-2) 6-0.

That left us with seven people holding three wins and one open spot in the playoffs. Who received that bid? That will be revealed in the next 12-or-so hours.

e11even 12-03-2013 04:43 AM

In this bitch. I predict an insane week.

Certain 12-03-2013 04:52 AM

I just finished reading the three no-show verses from this week. I have to say that I think Week 10 featured the best writing of the season.

Zen 12-03-2013 07:40 AM

Just realized I missed one vote last week. My bad.

ThisisDAM 12-03-2013 08:00 AM

Poppycock, guess I'm out...have fun

Geno 12-03-2013 08:15 AM

Dude you have the least losses out of all the 3 win people and a decent SOS.

Pretty sure they'll give it to Zyg if he's in.

Considering I beat you by one vote vs completely trouncing Zyg, one would think you'd have the upper hand there. Dunno if you have had any other like opponents.

I beat Zyg 7-4 I think. But, I think they like him more. It's cool, I decided to sign up in the league too late, hah

Diode 12-03-2013 11:13 AM

@Mike Wrecka

Where the hell did the loss in my record come from?

Vulgar 12-03-2013 01:04 PM

Play offs r overrated.

I say we just keep the regular season going forever.

King Ra. 12-03-2013 01:22 PM

@ThisisDAM actually you're record (3-1) is better than ZYG's (3-2) and you also own the tiebreaker over him. So you're more than likely in the playoffs in that last spot.

Records from this week haven't been updated yet. Were you ever in a fight night or anything?

PancakeBrah 12-03-2013 02:52 PM

Sorry for not voting last week. Horrible weekend for netcees responsibilities. I'll vote on every match this week

Certain 12-03-2013 03:10 PM

I am not going to say anything definitive about the three-wins people and the 12th playoff spot because it's Mike Wrecka's call. But there were seven people with three wins, and the decision will come based on what happened this season rather than a writer's reputation.

Serious question: Would that be such a bad idea? A year-round league broken up by occasional site-wide open tournaments?

I'd love to hear anyone weigh in on this.

Would that prove a disincentive to competing regularly or showing up? That'd be my biggest worry, that no-shows and not voting would be far more common because wins would not be as important.

PancakeBrah 12-03-2013 03:27 PM

I like it, personally. Year long. Person with the best record at the end of the year wins. Like the premiere league.

Shit would be so crazy oh shit brahs

patrown 12-03-2013 03:38 PM

my bad to the participants in battles i missed. i passed out halfway into them.

patrown 12-03-2013 03:39 PM

uh. did i miss playoff sign ups?

Certain 12-03-2013 03:50 PM

You signed up.

ThisisDAM 12-03-2013 03:53 PM

Remember the RSTL. That shit would go like 52 weeks.

Do a 48 week league. Top 8 make playoffs. Have special "boosters" or "enhancements" that can cause people to get strategic with wins/losses.

If you get more than 20 people to do this, you can DO A LOT OF cool shit with IT.

I have ideas, haha

Certain 12-03-2013 03:53 PM

There weren't seasons in the RSTL originally. Records were continual. I think they changed that in the past couple years before it died.

ThisisDAM 12-03-2013 03:59 PM

48 weeks. 12 weeks of 4 different things. Picture, Quote, 1 word, theme week or something

I think it would kill the urgency of voting deadlines and dropping out whenever wouldn't have any real consequences. I had an idea, but it wasn't well thought out, so for once I'll keep it to myself.

This new keyboard blows.

Certain 12-03-2013 04:31 PM

The more I think about it, the more I agree. A year-round league requires a much deeper entrant pool.

We have a gigantic entrant pool. It just hasn't been tapped recently.

i can assure you it wasnt me. i will investigate this matter further though

Certain 12-03-2013 05:00 PM

Gigantic? I think the interest in an open tournament will be high. I don't think there are many people who consistently would show and vote in an unending league.

Mike Wrecka 12-03-2013 05:00 PM

and a 48 week league sounds horrible tbh

YDK 12-03-2013 05:01 PM

I say we do a year round league and a tourney every few weeks with the ppl that would be considered playoff contenders and/or a tourney for the bottom half in the rankings. Either way the playoffs should still go as planned right now

I think it is complicated to predict but either way would get repetitive and boring

Vulgar 12-03-2013 05:14 PM

I just wanna be 162-2 as the new champ.

Let a ninja eatttt

jk

Certain 12-03-2013 05:24 PM

Matchups are posted in the OP. Threads will go up tonight.

Certain 12-03-2013 05:27 PM

And since I'm sure there is interest in this, I'll post the breakdown for the three-win glut and why YDK landed the final spot. The number next to the competitor's name is how many wins were racked up by the people they beat. This was the method we've said we would use all season.

YDK, 9 - Mike Wrecka, Buddha and Scripter
Just Write, 8 - Mike Wrecka, Objective and Aesthetic.
Innovator, 8 - breathless, YDK and Scripter.
ThisisDAM, 7 - ZYG, symetrik and King Ra.
Zenland, 7 - Innovator, symetrik and King Ra.
Adonis, 4 - Buddha, Clutter Buck and Fig.
ZYG, 3 - Mordycai, Genocide and Pinot Grij.

Certain 12-03-2013 05:28 PM

And finally, to keep people abreast of the situation, Mike Wrecka is taking a brief leave of moderating duties but approved all of this.

I'm the guy you can bitch to now, if you're so inclined.

(Three in a row.)
