Netcees Leadership Team Update - October
 
Netcees:

My primary goal since purchasing the site a week and a half ago has been to collaborate with the current leadership team to get a sense for who is on-board to make some productive changes in the near-term to improve the boarding experience today, and execute on some novel ideas to build upon this thing we do called 'text'.

There are some AMAZING writers in this space. The 'genre' itself, of "Creative & Competitive Writing", does not get the publicity it should. We will be expanding our reach over time. We will look to make this a rewarding, even financially rewarding in many cases, experience for all as we move into 2014.

One of my personal goals is to 'engage' with the community a bit more to give the team a better sense of where we are, and where we're going.

Below is a summary of the 'foundational' things we've done - and a brief look into some of the more tactical things to come. Right now - it has been ALL about setting the stage, for a self-sustaining leadership system, we will be building upon that foundation to introduce the "real cool shit" from there!

2.0 The Leadership Agreement:
I'm not in the business of over-policing shit - quite the opposite - I just want to make sure the right leaders are in place to share a consistent message and can be trusted to execute in accordance to our vision.

The Action Requested PLEASE REPLY TO THIS THREAD to acknowledge whether you are still interested in continuing your leadership role; and in general, agree with the following high-level principles:
  1. That our highest level ‘mission’, out the gate at least, could be surmised as “A community of writers, for writers”
  2. That shaping our culture, over time, in alignment with our mission is crucial for successfully realizing it.
  3. That in order to shape our culture in accordance with our vision, it is crucial to secure the type of leadership that ‘acts the way we want the community to be tomorrow’, rather than ‘reacts to the way it is today’.
  4. That you either (a) do not believe text is dead, or if you do, (b) also believe it can be resurrected.
The current leadership team, as it stands today, consists of:

3.0 P.A.C.T. Areas of Ownership:
Based on the combination of their interest and our needs, the leadership team is currently being assigned to the following areas of ownership, from which all of our advancements will come.
Process:
drives and defines the processes that run this board; collaborating with other areas where necessary. This area will touch all other areas in some capacity (e.g. HOF nomination process/execution; GLOBAL ‘voting rule’ expectations, etc.; inform the necessary permissions needed for the board to run efficiently/etc.)
Activity:
plans and runs ongoing and one-off activities (leagues, tourney’s, etc.); collaborates with other league/tourney owners to 'cross-sell' opportunities and continued growth/engagement.
Community:
manages those who manage the community (OM Mods, BA Mods, etc.) – focused on building the “culture” within, ensuring Mods are doing their job, and will be solicited for “promotion” questions of Mods
Tech:
implementation of the netcees roadmap; analytics/measurement; defining our success and reporting upon growth; key contribute to offsite expansion as we go and grow.

4.0 The Roadmap/Punch-list:
The leadership team and P.A.C.T. owners will work to define and communicate the plan --- AND following some gap analysis, we will be looking for others to get involved. If you are up for getting down with this, start thinking about where and how you’d like to contribute… and Stay Tuned! :)


The overarching roadmap could be surmised as:
PEOPLE --=> PROCESS --=> PRODUCT”.
We are working on the people, who will define the process, and improve the product.

Below are the high-level / high priority items for us to address to set the stage to get shit running real fluid-like. Individual priorities within the P.A.C.T. competency areas will be defined at a more granular by the respective owners of the areas.

FOUNDATIONAL ITEMS:

  1. Mission Statement - COMPLETE (10.13) .... "Creating a productive community of writers, for writers."
  2. Leadership Agreement - COMPLETE (10.13)... to archive & communicate.
  3. P.A.C.T. Ownership - IN PROCESS (10.13)
  4. Role Definition/Gap Analysis/Needs - PENDING (11.13)
  5. Leverage Model, Recruiting - PENDING (11.13)

  1. Finalize Teams - OPEN
MISC ITEMS: For future prioritization
To capture high-priority/overarching needs... each P.A.C.T area will have their own plan, informed by the areas owners.

  • P.A.C.T. Plan (by functional area)
  • PROCESS: Recruiting sign-off process
  • PROCESS: "Leadership Team" growth plan/advancement
  • ACTIVITY: 2013 wrap-up plan & preliminary 2014 schedule
  • COMMUNITY: Baseline expectations for the area (how it should be structured, how many mods are needed and where, what kind of permissions are needed)
  • TECH & PROCESS: User Role / Permission Definition (based on gap analysis / needs & recruiting process) --> informs how a new member progresses within the leadership team (from 'no permissions, but helping a mag' (for example) --> rankings/etc. --> mod abilities in certain forums/ etc.)

Build it, differentiate, and incentivize.

Detracting from the idea of a logical growth plan to increase awareness isn't a productive use of our time, Diode.

These steps are logical for any website looking to expand reach -- where it goes from there will be shaped by the community as it goes and grows.
