I have read Rainbow 6. It is ABSOLUTELY based on the formation of DEVGRU,
formerly SEAL Team 6. Clancy draws characters in the story from Team 6 in the story, however the clear inspiration and basis of rainbow is clearly founded on the real world story of STS.
