Destroyer 10-10-2013 08:54 PM

I did. did ya listen? did ya? did ya?
what feel of shit do you want?

Meth 10-10-2013 08:55 PM

I like pop-punk, alternative metal, post-hardcore, nu-metal

Do you like any of those?

I do.

Fart 10-10-2013 08:56 PM

If you like Grunge ... Klover Jane or just anything Rane Stone really. Friend of mine but he's getting up there, mostly because of his Alice in Chains cover band(Jar of Flies), which he nails vocally .

Indie, obviously. Because I'm a blowhard. I prefer melancholy. Because I'm arrogant and self-absorbed.

oats 10-10-2013 08:59 PM

I think you'd really like the latest Neko Case album. I got recommendations for days tbh, try give me an idea of what you want to listen to.

I'd be much obliged.

I'm good on nu-metal, though.

I'll give Neko Case another shot.

I like acoustic indie. Synths sometimes, if done right. Idk. Shit with emotion and soul to it, trending towards depressing. But the occasional uplifting joint is cool.

Although that's not the entire spectrum. I enjoy garage rock, shoegaze, etc.

Anything you think is good would be welcome.

Fart 10-10-2013 09:04 PM

Wow
Black Milk for sure @PancakeBrah

Mike Wrecka 10-10-2013 09:06 PM

Pancakebrah , have you delved into the Beatles?

PancakeBrah 10-10-2013 09:08 PM

Yeah, I went through the requisite Beatles phase. They deserve the praise, for sure.

oats 10-10-2013 09:13 PM

@PancakeBrah her latest album (title too long for me to bother to type) is exactly that description. Very scant sonically. Also, Madlib's Blue Note remixes are excellent if you're into jazz.

PancakeBrah 10-10-2013 09:14 PM

Only jazz I really liked was Bad Bad Not Good. I tried listening to Bitches Brew and didn't enjoy it. But that was years and years ago. Might give it a shot again.

uTorrent going full strength currently. <3 bros.

Split 10-10-2013 09:16 PM

Blue Note>>>>>
if you like that sort of jazzy hip hop instrumental stuff (really just plain modern music, imo) and you haven't listened to J Dilla, just stop not listening to him.

recently i've been listening to a lot of Spoon as well as Glocca Mora or however you spell it

PancakeBrah 10-10-2013 09:17 PM

Spoon has been a personal favorite for quite some time. Never listened to J Dilla. Will check it out. You put me onto Chance the Rapper so I respect the rap suggestions.

Destroyer 10-10-2013 09:19 PM

boat (everything by this band)
Elvis Perkins and Dearland
Beirut
Blitzen Trapper
Tapes and Tapes "The Loon"
Beulah "Handsome Western States"

Certain 10-10-2013 10:12 PM

You once told me you hadn't ever listened to The Smiths, which is silly.

I'm trying to think of recent things I don't know you already know. I think I remember you saying you don't like Chvrches, which makes me sad. Dirty Projectors are sometimes great. Jason Isbell? A little bit country, but not too country:

PancakeBrah 10-10-2013 10:12 PM

Dirty Projectors >

oats 10-10-2013 10:17 PM

@PancakeBrah ever listen to Ween or Queens of the Stone Age? Both are excellent bands in very different ways.

PancakeBrah 10-10-2013 10:21 PM

QOTSA is one of my favorites, for quite some time.

I've tried to get into Ween. They're like The Fall to me; I understand the clamor but something is off to me. I'm willing to try again to get into them.

Here's one good song for the dozens of rec's you hero's have given me

Certain 10-10-2013 10:22 PM

I'm guessing you're completely familiar with the Flaming Lips. If you're not, THE FLAMING LIPS.

Fig 10-10-2013 10:28 PM

you ever hear those joints that james blake and chance the rapper have collabed on cake?

oats 10-10-2013 10:29 PM

^^^true that. Flaming Lips are dope.

Animal Collective is also up your alley.
Bedouin Soundclash is worth checking out if you're into acoustic style music with reggae-ish vibes.
The Beta Band is another winner.
Black Keys I'm sure you've heard of.
Brothertiger is dope if you're into electronica/yacht rock
Corinne Bailey Rae
The Cure
Discovery (band, not Daft Punk album, which is also extremely dope) was on steady repeat for a long time.
Dispatch was a huge influence on me when I was in hs/early college
Electric Light Orchestra is one of my all-time favorite musical acts, in any genre.
Flogging Molly is a fun band
Fratellis, too
Katchafire is prob my favorite contemporary reggae band.

all good, but if I were to distill those recommendations, I'd go with the bolded ones.
