baron mynd

im trying to broaden my rap music catalogue. if you could reccomend 5 uk artists who would it be?

Lars 09-03-2013 12:36 PM

Tough one...

Most Americans like S.A.S, Masai is feeling Dot Rotten, Ghetto/Ghetts and Kano who are more what we call "Grime" which is a 180bpm tempo as opposed to a more 90bpm "hiphop" one, personally I like Kyza and Klashnekoff.

There's a few to start at least.

Lars 09-03-2013 12:36 PM

double post

appreciated, gon start listening now

trying to get away from the bullshit over here

Lars 09-03-2013 12:54 PM

There's a lot of bullshit here too, usually feel odd tracks by people rather than albums, as with most artists, I could have made the obligatory "Jehst, Rhyme Asylum, Loki" post every UK hiphop thread has but I tried to give you some I know other foreigners feel, there's more chance of you liking those somewhat...

Certain 09-03-2013 01:03 PM

S.A.S. is Strong Arm Steady, sir. Phil Da Agony is going to have to go across the pond to kick some British ass, it sounds like.

Lars 09-03-2013 02:05 PM

S.A.S from here are Mega and Mayhem, they have Nicki Minaj on their new joint, Coming To America II...

Lucos 09-03-2013 03:28 PM

I love Jehst and Chester P live, but they're not the best to try to try introducing those across the pond to...

Glad Kyza made your list though!

That's what I'm saying, I tried to give him some names I know heads already feeling out there. Masai is Australian so I don't know how credible you rate his music tastes, but I threw in some he liked for the lulz too :-)

Yeah?

He/They had more of a commercial sound, scored a number one record over here at one point, so I can definately see it.

They're not really my thing though, certainly not one of the first names I'd give out when thinking of UK hiphop.

I actually really like the Ty album "Upwards" if any of you are interested in checking it out. Without meaning any discredit to him, the guy reminds me of Roots Manuva, they were label mates and Roots features on the album too. It's probably quite old now, I love the vibe he has though throughout the whole thing.

@Lucos you heard it?

Seyance said most of them. Although I don't like Four Owls as a collective but from that Verb-T is amazing.

To add some older stuff I would put Lewis Parker, Ty, Juice Aleem, and New Flesh For Old.

Baron Mynd 09-14-2013 11:11 AM

I always liked Parker's beats more than his music.

Heh.

Ghost1 09-14-2013 11:18 AM

I cannot get past the accent.....tho s.a.s has sum features i can tolerate. Heard them on sum tom gist tape yesterday that was alright.
