i have not been paying attention to this Syria shit

Explain to me what's going on. Are we going to war again?

Witty 09-02-2013 04:11 PM

Obama is waiting for approval from congress I think?

Fart 09-02-2013 04:14 PM

obama is hitler

TYSON 09-02-2013 04:15 PM

What for?

Witty 09-02-2013 04:19 PM

Because he doesn't want the backlash that Bush got I guess.

Even though the situation is very different.

this is basically how the US is

if you're asking about syria, its been growing into a civil war since the arab spring and recently their government used chemical weapons on a few hundred civilians, which are outlawed by the geneva convention. BUT, Russia is a huge ally of Syria (the two trade Russia's last military base outside of the former soviet union is in Syria), so they're basically doing all they can to stop the UN from taking any sort of action against the Assad regime. Obama is asking for permission to attack Syria, which would be going around the UN. Any upcoming debates you'll be seeing soon will probably be about that

Fart 09-02-2013 05:45 PM

off topic. i hate that the US worries more about sand niggs than it's own problems

Rawn M.D. 09-02-2013 05:45 PM

we r going

weve been backin into a corner

but same thing will happen that happened in late 80s with Al Queda/Mojardeme (sp)

what are our own problems?

Sharp 09-02-2013 05:52 PM

close, but not really like the Mujahideen fighting the soviet union

we assisted rebels who were fighting an unpopular communist government, who called in soviet troops for assistance. Fighting a war on your own country vs in foreign territory is a huge difference. this is a straight civil war, where russia is diplomatic ally but not military

I'd be amazed if russia got any more involved than that after the Afghan-soviet war

Doubt it.

I think Putin is a crazy fuck who should not have any sort of power, but I don't think he is stupid.

I dunno about China tho, they scare the fuck out of me....they are a huugggge superpower, just hiding in the shadows.

I'm not so sure on the outcome. It's got so many more moving pieces and possible situations than Afghanistan did, especially now. And the actual rebels are more interested in liberty than religion, while Mujahideen is literally jihadist. Similar on the surface, maybe.

diplomatically, probably. It's basically just them wanting to protect economic and political interests. Especially after the soviet occupation of afghanistan i doubt they'd be willing to send military there. The biggest conflict between major nations will be political.

God Of War 09-02-2013 06:00 PM

FUCK NO

he said "naw we made a classic and its somethng we cant create so i wont be in anothe rone" like a faggot

shit ruined my day

Rawn M.D. 09-02-2013 06:04 PM

that is fucked! @God Of War i thought he agreed, i was hype!!!

and there is a lot more implications than b4 bc of allies on the syria issue

but we r going, cant not at this point imo

TYSON 09-02-2013 06:10 PM

Yea pretty fucked up what they did to them . @Witty i think Artemis is saying why are we always the captain save a hoe. I rarely hear anyone else going to aid foreign countries. The thing is we seem to have to save someone every two months.

Sharp 09-02-2013 06:12 PM

Diplomatically this is a LOT more clear cut than Afghanistan... the government has broken the Geneva convention for christ's sake.

and I can definitely see boots on the ground being debated heavily. Especially with how our presence throughout the middle east has been, its definitely not an easy sell. All we've really heard was 'military action', the only specific part was cruise missile strikes. At the same time, its clear we couldn't overthrow Assad without actual military presence. And while we're already attempting to fund, equipt and train rebels we really haven't been doing it too efficently. What I see happening is more of a coordinated effort to aid the rebels indirectly, knowing full-blown military action could end terribly.

idk about you but im more concerned with money than the world. i couldnt care less about kids i've never met

Rawn M.D. 09-02-2013 06:14 PM

@TYSON team america, fuck yeah!
@Sharp Nine the sniper was the final straw imo - it may not b directly linked, but it still gives argument to..

TYSON 09-02-2013 06:16 PM

Lmao@rawn m.d.

Sharp 09-02-2013 06:18 PM

that could lean the UN into it, but with no one being hurt, no motive, and the UN in a stalemate I wouldn't lose sleep over it.

the sniper attack hasnt been attributed to anyone and if the UN DOES act it won't act on anything but significant evidence

Rawn M.D. 09-02-2013 06:20 PM

agreed

I usually agree that America gets involved in other countries affairs much too often, but in this case I feel like if nothing is done more innocent people will just keep dying.

I dunno if it is definitely the right thing to do, but something has to be done.

Admittedly the pictures of dead kids on the news has swayed me emotionally, which is why i would make a horrible politician, but i think some things are more important than politics.

Understood.

Rawn M.D. 09-02-2013 06:37 PM

Sharp 09-02-2013 06:40 PM

You know I have to ask what that authority is or assume its Rawnmo

Rawn M.D. 09-02-2013 06:41 PM

word, im with you yo

but its all money

it looks like it costs money to go to war, but politicians and shit have vested interests in companies that profit from war, so off bat thats a reason to go in, and control of a region is $$$ syria is in russias pocket but if we fund/participate and help a rebellion the next regime can be in ours and we get the benefits of whatever they control even if its just a safe place to wage war from onto neighboring countries

its all schemes and shit at the end of the day for $$$$

Rawn M.D. 09-02-2013 06:57 PM

uh=oh that was more the case with like ww1 n 2 tbh

war used to cause mass industry for the effort

now its more a flex, i mean ya there is a $$$ component, but not as much as b4

uh-oh 09-02-2013 07:03 PM

its ALL money

ww1 and 2 boosted our economy no doubt, but they had such a giant effect because those wars were so big. the whole country was in the war effort

now its companies and corporations that have the politicians and lobbyists in there pockets. these same companies rebuild the areas we destroy and get paid to do so, these same companies build the munitions we pay for and shoot etc, so they are profiting, and on top of that the control of a region is MAJOR profits no matter how small it is. you got a sovereign nation basically paying tribute to you

i mean look in afghanistan, we got troops guarding the poppy fields, we're getting the opium from the source for pharmeceutical companies $$$$, afghanistan supplies like 90 percent of the worlds heroin, cia has been known to sell drugs to raise funds, russia has a giant heroin problem, we're supplying the heroin contributing to the degredation of there whole infrastructure from the bottom up.

meanwhile once in syria its like oh watsup you palestinians we here with israel cuz we love the jews

next thing you know reptilians are flying out of CITADELS like dragons eating kids and pulling off the veil in the introduction to the NWO

!!!

Rawn M.D. 09-02-2013 07:08 PM

we need to mass produce Krokadile and just kill russia

uh-oh 09-02-2013 07:08 PM

what im reading tho is the rebels and shit are al qaeda? does that make sense? so we'd essentially be teaming up with who we've been fighting to overthrow syria

hmmm

i dont get any of this shit. i just throw my logic at it like a net with a big hole in the middle trying to grasp any shred of understanding and come up with nothing.

Rawn M.D. 09-02-2013 07:10 PM

lol the enemy of my enemy is my friend

thats how the Middle East works
