A friend is having an fart exhibit in the beginning of December and want me to perform a slam poetry piece at the opening
Just wanted to inform you all that I've agreed to commit social suicide
|
You’ll do great bro, record it
|
Will do! It'll be in Norwegian though.
I'm starting to see where and how one can get a side income from this though. I want to get into open mics once shit opens up again, the opening in December will be my first time performing my own shit in front of people, so that'll be interesting for sure. Once that is settled over the course of a year and skills have developed further, I can create a webpage stating: "Want a personal slam poetry piece (wedding/art openings/business/bachelor party/funeral/etc.) to be performed or written for you? Rates are as such: Micro-poem: 5$ a piece (or 10 for 30$) Poem (medium length, 10 lines max): 30$ Written slam poetry piece: 50$ Performed: 150$ (+ travel & accomodation) Changes: Anything you like to change? Free the first 2 times. After that: 5$ per edited line or couplet. (Pro-tip if anyone would want to try out the same thing: make a slightly visible error but something the customer can see, CLIENTS in graphic design LOVE to think they know better and change things regardless how perfect it is. They make errors on the reg so the customer feel satisfied with themselves and the work is exactly how they want it but in reality you was just waiting to finish it up, lol. If they don't say anything you simply change 1 thing/grammatical error/whatever mistake you made and the customer will think you care extra about them and can built a great working relationship with them that way) I don't know, something like that. But it could be a good side income along with videos etc. showing my work and style. Got to truly excel in order for something like this to work out, but it might be a great long term goal to make for myself if I want to pursue this further after the opening and I find attending open mics/slam poetry events as fun. All of this is just what I came up with now and may have to be changed, and not start at rates that high. |
|
I could always go for 4 posts in succession like other people on here if that is preferred. (I won't) Change my name and see me back in 6-12 months like I've done in the past you absolute shitstank of a person. Just block me, skim through it or scroll past like an individual that doesn't expect others to make the world perfect for them. Y'all know I won't change by now, so either gimme the boot or put up with it. Do the middle ground and I'll make the decision for you
|
Damn bro chillllll it was just a joke
Anyways, regarding your op - I hope you feel better. Being sick sucks |
Awesome buddy. Looking forward to the video.

@Zuch: I didn't say I'd share it, and I definitely won't because it'll be in Norwegian and y'all devious bastards will use it a source for humor, lol But ye, it'll be interesting to see how it goes, can update the thread of how it went and perhaps a pic of me performing the thing so you'll at least see I wasn't lying about it |
try not to be disheartened if (when) nothing comes of the slam poetry.
otherwise, good luck. |
Eng can’t even be supportive of something he’d put in his top 5 life experiences
Just eat a bullet and get it over with |

The poetry slam community in Norway is pretty small (compared to other countries/cities) so just getting into it will make it possible for me to network/learn further as they're a pretty supportive bunch (from what I've heard). I live life for the experiences, not the $. It just makes it more interesting with a carrot at the end of the stick once you've reached a certain point I guess. I like making goals with steps for myself. And I can't lose what I don't have, or need when it comes down to it, anyways. At "worst" I'll write stuff and only post here or other places, which I'm completely cool with as well. The art exhibit and poetry slam opening is happening tho, they're doing groups of 20 at a time. |
This is dope. I want to peep. At least put the english text somewhere, or even better. Make a second video and do it in english for us.
|
I'll consider it @White Earl. But that's also because it's a challenge to write a piece that can be read in two languages, and getting feedback on what I should focus on first (not pertaining to accent) would be extremely valuable

Makes sense

idk how often you tell others to off themselves but you might consider why youre so casually quick to. good perspective to have, objective. |
Obj been doing slam poetry forever tho
What makes you think he’d stop because it isn’t a mainline into immediate success |

The event is postponed until further notice as more people have gotten Covid the past week, and we're basically back to March with lockdowns, closed gyms and so on. Sucks

Also, I remember people pulling the same negative detrimental bs towards other people at other forums, I've seen people bloom the moment they got away from people like you in particular. You think THIS is the place to grow outside of your own weak af online persona that reeks of being a toxic lowlife irl? No, really, I'm interested to hear you speak. |
do youre thing brodie.

Just know his Ghost1: I ain't joking about what I'm saying, I care less than you think and you will probably care a bit more than you were ready for if you go down this path. You will not be able to mend shit afterwards and I'll probably ignore you after our back n forth forever after this, solely because I think you are literal garbage that won't even deserve the least of my attention in terms of a reply |

Good to see you though. Wuddup fammo |

It got postponed to February due to Covid, and then cancelled due to bankruptcy/lack of funding in the end. They told my friend they're going to open it back up again at a later notice when things settle and he's one of the first on the list to get a gallery opening if/when it happens. Not too big of a deal to me but my friend is devastated :(

Lmfao robronDUH.

Sorry to hear about the delay though. Still probably for the best. |
Probably for the best considering covid etc. In terms of the rest: I got no shame and live life for the memories. Also got connected with a person that has won a few of these events and competed internationally (at least I think he has, at the very least performed outside of Norway) so I think my addition to his opening would serve its purpose well enough even if it wouldn't be top notch stuff.
|
I wish you would change your sig though. Cringe

I've had it since I signed up, which was 10+ years ago. Have been thinking about changing it but now I definitely won't and never will lol |
yeahh dont listen to these motherfuckers.. focus on ur objectives
|
Objective... yeah man do it.
I don't like doing public speaking, or preforming on stage. The few times I rapped in stage it was loud, low lights and a lot of yelling. Doing spoken word and whatever, even if you have good material and are confident about how you can speak it cadence etc, its all on you. So its a little more nerve wracking. But if you promised your friends you'd do it and you've got confidence, go ahead and kill it man, unless you're horrible you wont get booed and you'll feel good a few years later about it. Good luck homie don't back out! |
Word. Mac n Ouch among a couple the real ones on here.
I think the Norwegian culture is very accepting to giving things a go, even when people fuck up. The spoken word and storyslam communities are really supportive as well. Tons of events where novice people can start out, crowds are usually supportive/respective as well knowing someone is doing something they don't dare to do. I feel safe enough in terms of backlash, shit was always nerve wracking until I'm on the stage in school (obviously not the same but theater etc. I often got one of the main roles, just gotta think of it as the same thing). Then everything disappears, I just need somewhere to start. Once covid is over I'm going to be joining events on the reg and build from there for the love of it. |
Bottom line is you know if what you're reciting is good enough or not. Just do it, in a Norwegian cafe thats all about poetry readings I don't think you'll get booed even if you suck horribly. And you'll probably do fine.
I spoke at both of my brothers memorial services. One committed suicide, the other was killed. And my parents wouldn't speak, my brother who committed suicide my mom rented out this big hall, there was like.. a good 300 people there. My parents wouldn't speak, and I just flippantly said I would a few days before the service not really thinking. But anyway, I stood up and went to the podium and did it and I feel good about myself to this day for doing it. And this is coming from a guy who went to community college, had a stand up presentation and I didn't go to school the day of, they rescheduled it and I didn't go to school that day either. I'm loud mouth, and confident as fuck.. but public speaking makes me feel scurred. Bottom line is stand up and do your shit, if you're confident in it. You'll feel way better about it if you do Vs. hide under your bed sheets. |
