Hybrid theory is also a classic I'd have on my list but I forgot about. Of course it definitely integrates hip hop influence

Maybe I'll give it another chance sometime. I used to fuck with the hard bop stuff pretty heavy, but the solos just take too damn long. Of that whole era it felt maybe 1/10 are enjoyable listens. Usually, for me, it's when the soloist also writes tunes. Feels like they think differently. Like Bobby Timmons or Wayne shorter on the art blakey albums (and their solo stuff) just feel more engaging to me |
