What’s fucking good NC. I’m back with the first mag I’ve throw into disc in ages - if ever - because this is for the BA PPV. CENTER TEXT. I’ve been entirely focused on the SOL and getting NC/RB to work together that it might look like I forgot about this. Swear I haven’t, but I wanted to get started on it early so I can manage the work for these dope battles we have set up.

THE EVENT

The battles will go up on 3 separate nights with 3 separate cards: 1 Main event and 2 Supporting battles, but the undercard sure as hell looks dope. Each battle will have its own introduction post leading into the battle itself, which is way new to me. I'm going for a battle vid vibe, so less emphasis on mags here.

All battlers will need their verses turned into me by via PM by Monday, 3/18. Any verse can be submitted early, then edited before the due date. I will post all battles.

THE PREVIEWS


BA Title: BodySnatcher vs Resin M-I-C

This is going to be the first battle for the direction of text - old school vs new school in a matchup we (SOL finals notwithstanding) have not seen. Body and Resin are an ideal pairing, imo, as they each represent different approaches to battling with a similar strength - harshness in wording and execution. These two could go O Red made up language on us and it would still read mean. Conceptual styles are what sets the two apart and this may come down who has the better angles.


Dominate vs Blue Bayou

This could be a main event and no one would complain. These two, bar none, have some of the best wordplay today and should make anyone's All-Time short list. They've got their unique way of doing things, but if you wanna tell me their verses aren't dope, you don't know text. Expect head turning wordplay and crisp, lethal execution from two masters of their craft.


Lars vs Sharp - Self Diss Battle

This has potential to be interesting and funny as fuck. Some are saying Lars has a light opponent on day 3, so he's got a more fitting match here - himself. These two are posting verses meant to diss themselves, a format not used since the 2013 elements tourney. Lars is a funny and creative writer with a reasonably new challenge so I have think he'll tear it up. The main advantage I have is the self-hatred that comes with writing so many text mags.

SOL Champ Match: TBD

In my opinion, the season champ match should be a main event in general. More exposure and the treatment this shit deserves to cap off what's been a dope, exciting season. Beats the hell out of leaving it in a forum with nothing else.

Their preview will be done in the SOL finals mag.

DynamiCz vs Barcotic

I'm interested in this one. These are two guys who, stylistically, aren't always the most voter friendly here, but that can change on the whim of the people who actually vote. They both have mean wording and a chance for hit-or-miss wordplay; DynamiCz may go for a little too much, Barc not enough. Barcotic has been talking about being better with gunbars than most anyone in text, while DynamiCz has actually been dropping quality gunbars and wp - Barc may be outgunned here and if not, this is a potential classic.


Grudge Match: Diablo vs Incredible

Man, I have to think Inc bit off more than he can chew, but respect to him for diving right into this battle. When Lars has a target he'll drop 80 solid lines on a whim, but Incredible only needs 14. He needs that 14 to be his best verse to date considering how funny and personal Lars can be (not to mention the skill as a writer).


BA Tag Title: Infiltrate & Blue Bayou vs Jabari Black & DynamiCz

Infiltrate, surviving member of team Cashtration, has teamed up with Blue Bayou for the tag title defense. The two vets are taking on team Bad Etiquette, featuring the top seed in the SOL playoffs, Jabari Black, and Tha Culture himself, DynamiCz. This is a semi-rematch for these guys as JB actually beat both in the SOL season. Blue listed his loss as a regret this season - saying he shouldn't have done so many gunbars - and he has a chance to redeem it here with partner known for slick wordplay (and editing verses).


Grudge Match: Flow vs bleak

The season's biggest beef turning into something. These two both prefer getting personal with a pic but they're going regs - I'm expecting dope personals here. Flow has jokes, but he can't afford to be too cheesy. bleak has started changing up the way he executes punches, but he can't afford to get too far out there and muddle a punch. Either way I expect these dudes to be at each other's neck and hopefully get it all settled before the 1-2 kicks off.


Ryno vs Prozac

Like I said in the SOL mag, this is the battle of guys I wanna see more of. Ryno aka Bash has always been good, but lately he's been using more creative angles than I've ever seen from him. Prozac joined late, had a verse with some smooth wordplay, but time ran out on our season before he could really make himself known. Bash has a chance to establish himself as one of text's top battlers, while Prozac has a shot to show he can hang with some of our best.

Or he's Barcotic/Zelph (which would make either one a crazy method actor)


WHAT ELSE

If you don't know already, get ready for the resurgence of the 1-2 league, coming after a few more logistics are banged out. I won't give away any details, but I can tell you that we'll have a fresh perspective in modding and the makeup of the league/mags seem genuinely interesting.


To those who caught the bug but don't have anywhere to do regs (yes, I'm saying it), the LLL is about to head into week 2. Week 1 was about as small as ours in SOL, but the sign ins for week two just about double the # of participants, including Blue Bayou, Dominate, and Resin M-I-C (not to mention RB LEGEND JOE FUCKING BOSTON).
