I like Eminem

By far my favorite rapper. I own an original pressing of Infinite on vinyl. The dark colored one. Not that lightly colored reprint. I can recite whole albums. If I had the opportunity to have a sit down conversation with a celebrity it would be Em. I won’t argue with you about who’s better, but I doubt you’re changing my opinion.

I know there are fans of every artist who will blindly follow whatever they do/say. That’s when fandom gets weird.

Seen the Stan joke used about 12 times in the other thread so here. Just let it all out in here.

Chill Phil 09-04-2018 10:33 AM

I used to be an Eminem fan, until he started doing that weird accent shit on the album with the song "rain man," on it. He lost me forever after that.

I'm tuning in to this back and forth though. Of course Eminem is the better lyricist of the two. But the shots being fired from both just makes for a great bit of entertainment.

Hush 09-04-2018 10:43 AM

Is Eminem the best to y’all cuz it’s most relatable and was released at a time in your life where you was quite impressionable ?

Cuz he def not the best rapper alive today

Destroyer 09-04-2018 10:45 AM

Lol. Who is then, Vic?

Hush 09-04-2018 10:46 AM

Cole and Kendrick both better than current Em dude

I could go on

Hush 09-04-2018 10:48 AM

Nas drake kanye Pusha t

This

I liked him when I was a preteen cus swearing and being oddly violent was kewl xD

After the only people that vibed with him I knew were poor white dudes, same people that started bumping mgk when he came up

I don’t disrespect his legacy in terms of talent and clout. He did his thing and did it well. As a technical rhymer was he top 5 at his time? Yes. Did he influence some of today’s beat rhymers? Yes. Is he now technically still the best? No.

He is an all time great but so we’re atheltes that would get fucking destroyed by new age atheltes. Time = progression.

I’m curious is dull boy is a Stan because of nostalgia, his technical prowess, and/or the content of his music/story.

Amen 09-04-2018 11:03 AM

There isn't a lyricist who can match EM's pen game. And I'm not even a EM fan like that.

As far as song making. He's definitely not the best. Majority do it better.

But when it comes to the pen. I don't see anyone better.

dull boy 09-04-2018 11:06 AM

I like Hip Hop.
Naughty by Nature, Mobb Deep, Wu, Redman
LL, Pac, Big, Snoop, Pun, Nas and on and on and on.
I feel like Mos Def's Black on Both Sides is my favorite Hip Hop album.
Rawkus led to Def Jux led to Rhyme Sayers.

The way Em represents lyricism and respects Hip Hop is part of why he's my favorite.
MGK is right. He's a 'dweeb'. Word nerd. Fucking Hip hop historian.
The way Em writes is why I like him. Delivery wise not many are on his level, either.

While I can vibe out to The Chronic,
I'm not going to be sitting there picking the bars apart.
Because there just isn't the same amount of depth.

Kendrick is really dope. I haven't listened to much Cole,
because I don't like the sing song shit. Same with Drake.

Em is white and a fucking nerd. So obviously he's more relatable.

Cus of his multis? Or his wordplay?

Never got how people definitively place him as the best when there’s so many styles

His content is garbage and for edgy kids and white trash

I like lyricists. Em's story is fascinating because he's basically Jackie Robinson.
Only it happened in 1998 when I was 15 years old.

Do I think he's the best now? Yeah.
Name a record lyrically more impressive than Kamikaze made this year or last.

Destroyer 09-04-2018 11:11 AM

Lol @ Kanye and pusha T
I mean, I like what they both doing but to say that Kanye has ever been a better rapper than Eminem now or at any time is just laughable

The best way to improve your posture is to focus on exercises that strengthen your core -- the abdominal and low back muscles that connect to your spine and pelvis.

Because of his delivery. His ability to rhyme relevant multiple syllables, stay in the scheme and incorporate clever wordplay into those lines in a way that works both ways.

Other talented writers have trouble doing that type of thing even a little bit. I know how difficult it is because I've spent 20 years writing rhymes, and I don't have to worry about delivering them over a beat.

Name a better lyricists. And I mean lyricist, not song maker.

I'll wait.

KOD

Lyrics aren’t shit if the content is trash. Kamikaze was a good listen but aside from the Joyner track it has no replay value. Bunch of wordplays that have been done to death by textcees which were a result of him and disses that don’t serve a purpose beyond the initial shock value. All those Eminem show style Eminem singing on the hook songs on this were garbage.

Kendrick. Joyner. JID. Cole.

Of the new school

Big Pun was a better wordsmith than him during their time.

It's all preference.

I think Kendrick is highly overrated. But agree on Cole, sort of.

Listening to KOD now. Please hold.

Amen 09-04-2018 11:34 AM

Also, you can't just single out multis or wordplay, EM does it all. Flow, Schemes, Punches, Wordplay, Humor, Witty, Creative, etc...

TO ME, none of these new aged cats are seeing him as far as lyricism. They just make better music, I guess. Hard to explain because to me it doesn't even make sense.

But it's like being able to build a house - doesn't mean you can sell it.

KOD

I'm on track 5 (ATM) and so far this album is straight forward, simple schemed, basic knowledge writing. I'm not saying it's bad. I'm saying that in terms of lyricism nothing has been better lyrically than Kamikaze.

Fuck. Feel Me Flow by Naughty By Nature is better than this album in terms of lyricism, and that shit was a summer anthem single from like '93 or '94.

Em's technical prowess in terms of how he schemes things, words things and incorporates humor is on some genius, idiot savant type shit.

It sucks that the dude became the biggest pop act in the whole fucking world, because Infinite and SSEP showed how crazy he was with that part of rapping and writing.

I really think there's a gap between people who really appreciate what the guy does and those who know him as a popular, controversial rapper.

dull boy 09-04-2018 11:55 AM

ATM

(Verse 1)
I know that it's difficult
I'm stackin' this paper, it's sort of habitual
I blow the residual
And fuckin' yo bitch like its part of my ritual
Pardon the visual
But money, it give me a hard-on it's typical
I want it in physical
A million dollars, I count up in intervals
Without it I'm miserable
Don't wanna fall off so I'm all in my bag
Thankin' God like it's biblical
I know it's gon' solve every problem I have
I balled on the principal
Remember the teachers was all on my ass
Now look all of them, pitiful
And all of a sudden I'm so good at math

Come on, man. This shit is so straight forward. I'm not even hating. It's not like it's bad or anything. It's dude's music, but to compare it lyrically to what Em does is just... like comparing the fact that I can cook spaghetti so I'm a culinary artist.

I don’t think his wordplays are intricate and think his humor isn’t funny, so we probably won’t ever agree

After you said KOD was better lyrically you kind of lost all credibility, with me.

You're obviously free to form your own opinion. I just think you're missing something.

Em's lyrics are overflowing with allusory statements. He references certain classic Hip Hop, not just for the fuck of it, but because it has relevance in what he's talking about. He does the same shit in disses.

Em takes issue with MGK saying pedophilia type shit towards his daughter. So he says, "you already know who you are, Kelly."

Just that one line. It's clever. It's on point. The way he uses, 'already' as a rhyme for, 'are, Kelly.' All of this shit adds up and it never really ends. This is just one sliver of an example.

It's overly complex. He's teaching string theory to 6th graders.

Amen 09-04-2018 12:22 PM

If 2 syllable end rhymes are considered multis & lol @ moms spaghetti.

you got his dick in your mouth cus rhyming already and r kelly isn't flabbergasting

maybe doing text battles for so long makes me not think are/r kelly isn't that wild of a wordplay

Respecting someone's talent isn't having their dick in your mouth. Think I don't know being in this thread defending Eminem is unpopular? Think I'm doing it because I'm in love with him, or some other reason? Hmmmmmmm

It's not wild. It's pertinent. Relevant. The already/are, Kelly part isn't mind blowing, either. It's just one example of how you can subtly make a line/rhyme better by adding assonance or internal schemes.

Most of us here have been doing this for a while. No one is coming up with much that's refreshing or new in the world of wordplay. Current events is the best way to seem fresh. When a dude named Machine Gun Kelly talks about your 13 year old being hot, then as a rapper it's easy to make the connection. It's the way he uses it. It's subtle. It's relevant. He adds other elements to make the rhyme/line flow and sound better.

Like I said. One example. Point is... I looked at 5 Cole songs off that album you said was lyrically better than Kamikaze and none of it was even worth breaking down. It's all just straight forward rhyming. Take the first song off Kamikaze and you could teach a class on rhyme writing.

big baby 09-04-2018 12:57 PM

tbh kendrick is good and lyrical but to say his form of writing is more intricate or impressive than em isn't solid? what textcees do anything that em does? besides really good "rhymers" like neigh or db himself? i read a lot of battles here and nothing is really
impressive LYRICALLY. cool little wordplays and punches, but in theory that's tired and easy to do. if u think karaoke or cashijs are at the pinnacle of rhyming or anything of that nature u r clearly probably not the greatest writer. i haven't listened to end album and i probably won't even though I'm defending him here. cole is a good writer, but to say he's better lyrically is weird as fuck. i bump cole songs but better lyrically? song making and lyricism aren't the same lol. also literally almost nobody here is an amazing rhymer. I'm gewd friends with bagga but i don't hesitate to tell
him he sucks anytime i get. but i do understand he's considered cool and good, here. it's just silly saying eminem sucks. if he were on nc he'd be the people's champ prob and prob be pushed to go mainstream cause he'd be the best there or something retarded. em music generally sucks nowadays and u can't bump it on the car = doesn't equate to him not being good lyrically
