Anyway.

Ghetto boys- my mind is playing tricks on me

First rap song I ever heard, hooked me

Sharp 06-08-2018 09:05 AM

Phrenology by the Roots

Nothing groundbreaking, but it was the first time I really heard the rhythm section matter in a hip hop setting. A lot of those tracks are good as instrumentals

Geno 06-08-2018 09:18 AM

Oh also.. I remember nas "i am" album being a rly heavy tipping point. Still one of my allyime fav albums

Tracks like
Nas is like
Undying love
Money is my bitch
Favor 4 a favor ft. face
..that whole album the shit.

I am

Is underrated as fuck to me....it might be blasphemy but I liked it better than illmatic

Just my opinion

Ghost1 06-08-2018 09:29 AM

honestly i was always and am still am of the jayz camp....i really never even heard illmatic till the internet. most of us can remember how difficult it was to get music without it i would think. plus i was still a child so that involved convincing my parents to buy me these wildly offensive albums with their money. really i was only getting a handful of albums a year MAYBE plus it wasn't nearly as saturated as it is now......it wouldnt even be a new rap album out every month.

but yea i mean I AM dropped when i was like a freshman in highschool and it was a big deal. then jayz and nas beef popped off a couple years later and that's when i was like....ok nas....i suppose i need to listen to all of your music since u just ripped out my super heros heart. i still maintain jay won the war....pretty positive that's a general consensus at this point but word that was when nas became really relevant to me.

I distinctively remember not just hearing but where I was and loving "Tha Crossroads"(the days of waiting for the radio to play the song and record it on a tape) & the music video for "If I ruled the World" on Rap City.

So I guess Bone & Nas were my first hip-hop obsessions. Also remember my family being stationed in Dover, De for a brief period of time and my dad telling me "We are from the east coast don't ever choose 2pac over Biggie." LOL

I agree with i am....but liked illmatic better than it was written.

I think illmatic is considered his best album just because at the time it was released ppl were so caught off guard by his talents. By the time I Am dropped kats knew esco was incredible and expected that type of material from him

Lord finesse & Buckshot laced that project in my opinion but yea no doubt. They were def dusty as fuck. I wish School days Devil Son & hard times on the blvd were on the album tho. Pussy ass Columbia records

Amen 06-08-2018 02:05 PM

OC ft Big L still in rotation.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U6Flv9JiRb8

Always in rotation. Songs fire and the beat bananas.

Lenox 06-08-2018 02:06 PM

The album was suppose to be called Murder Incoporated. Lol L was a wild motherfucker

Lenox 06-08-2018 02:06 PM

My fav big l features are off Herb Mcgruffs debut. That’s def a classic tho

Mr. Faggot 06-08-2018 02:07 PM

Big l was dope...but he never had the production to push him

Lenox 06-08-2018 02:10 PM

This guy^ lol

Are you really trying to tell me the big picture didn’t have the production?

Lenox 06-08-2018 02:11 PM

Ebonics, size em up, platinum plus, intro.. the heist, deadly combination , the enemy

Mr. Faggot 06-08-2018 02:49 PM

Yup. Generic hand me down NY beats from that era...

Given the right production he could of had a illmatic type album in my opinon
