Bookcees Book Club

so far we got myself, @Bags, @uh-oh, @Witty, @Diode, and @PancakeBrah. of course it's open to any and all comers. here's how it'll work.

members will rotate choosing a book per month to read. everyone reads it, drops a response in the thread at the end of the month etc, CULTUREDNESS OF NC GOES THROUGH THE ROOF.

I was thinking of including a maximum length to make it more feasible for the dadcees crew, IE no Infinite Jest or some shit. 400 page maximum work, or do you guys think it's unnecessary?

as for when we want to start, the energy is good now, but I also don't mind waiting until 2018 to kick it off. down with what the people decide.

most importantly, do we wanna spell Club with a K? IE Klub? Makes it more unique and, dare I say, kool. think about it.

PancakeBrah 09-09-2017 12:27 AM

Down to start whenever.

uh-oh 09-09-2017 07:01 AM

agreed

is it possible to nominate someone to choose a book when its your turn THO

one of the main reasons i don't read more is my indecisiveness on picking something to actually read lol. i'll read whatever one of you guys pick. or just put me last in the rotation so i have time to find something i might be interested in recommending

but word im ready whenever for it to start

oats 09-09-2017 07:46 AM

order is whatever to me, so if anyone wants to go later or earlier, we can make it happen. trick is to just read something YOU want to read and not care too much if others will or won't be interested. that way you end up getting exposed to a bunch of stuff that you otherwise may not have. start looking now. might sound corny, but I'd recommend signing up for goodreads. good way to track shit and learn about new books. just go goodreads dot com.

Ghost1 09-09-2017 09:14 AM

In this book klub

Let's start now

Ghost1 09-09-2017 09:15 AM

An I'm on good reads....I don't track my books there yet just out of laziness

...but is it just me or are the book reviews there a bit negative lol

big baby 09-09-2017 09:18 AM

uh no fucka off lmao not in book klub... idiyote lmao

big baby 09-09-2017 09:19 AM

bb in

oats 09-09-2017 09:22 AM

@Bags I agree. I think a lot of bookish types feel a sense of validation from having generally low ratings. I think my average rating is close to a 4. edit: can't find you on it tho, bags.

looks like the energy is good to start now. I know uh-oh wants to go last, anyone want to go first?
@Diode would it be helpful for you to go first or nah?

Ghost1 09-09-2017 10:08 AM

Hm I'll have to log in an see what's what....I'll get back to you on THAT

2tripple0 09-09-2017 04:55 PM

Read read read

Pakistani Hand Cannon 09-10-2017 01:22 AM

yeah yeah

im down

oats 09-10-2017 06:25 AM

aite so we got @Rugged @big baby @Bags @uh-oh @Witty @Diode @PancakeBrah but obviously anyone can participate, silently or otherwise.

unless we'd rather have the first book finished by the end of October, I'll pick a book of manageable length for September since we're already a week in.

SEPTEMBER BOOK: Between the World and Me by Ta-Nehisi Coates

Godspeed, bookcees.

Do Not Reply 09-10-2017 07:53 AM

Count me in

Can we try to stay away from reading books in a series? I have horrible commitment issues.

oats 09-10-2017 10:21 PM

@Do Not Reply people can choose whatever they want, but it's a single book per month, so I'm doubtful there will be a shared effort to pick series books.
@Bags you're on deck for October.

Eŋg 09-11-2017 06:31 AM

throw me in for next month, too.

Lol it was the shortest book on my to-read list. But regardless of how you feel about the content itself, read it for its quality of expression/writing, and at the very least it's a good exercise in seeing a different perspective.

In other news, chili dog homes.

Inno 09-11-2017 09:52 PM

Why not put me for next game coach.

Warthog Lite 09-11-2017 10:32 PM

Vulgar 09-12-2017 03:44 PM

I'm interested but will mostly be a spectator. I think I have the Coates book, haven't read it either. Will see if timeslotz open up.

oats 09-12-2017 04:18 PM

Just had a 10 hour flight, nearly finished it. Would have if I hadn't have taken a Valium and knocked the fuck out.

Pinot Grij 09-12-2017 07:23 PM

I will read this book.

YDK 09-13-2017 07:48 PM

Y'all are the best

PancakeBrah 09-13-2017 08:18 PM

Read his article on reparations awhile back. Will pick this up tomorrow.

He's doing/did the most recent Black Panther comic series.

oats 09-13-2017 10:51 PM

I still haven't gotten around the the reparations piece, but his most recent essay "The First White President" was tremendous.
