Hip hop vs mumble rap

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4_KQr8rfPbE

What y'all folk think

uh-oh 09-25-2016 05:28 PM

pretty much the reason i said hip hop is in its worst place of all time though

don't tell these guys though they think everything is fine

meanwhile everyone who ever meant anything to hip hop thinks different but word

Ghost1 09-25-2016 08:12 PM

Yea Laffy taffy was fine guys that was better

Nas declared hip hop dead

Weord it didn't die

Grow up idiots

Didn't watch

But will

uh-oh 09-25-2016 08:19 PM

laffy taffy soulja boy etc was the beginning of the ending, it wasn't the main thing though, they were big sure but it wasn't the overriding theme

mumble rap is huge, thats what you aren't getting

its not as relevant to us, because we find what we like. but to the masses mumble rap is the majority, along with like drake and kendrick, major drop off after the few others, meanwhile there is a dozen mumble rappers who are huge

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_CzqgDd5Ivc

fire^

no one gives a shit though

the argument is basically towards the young. when i was 16 i was bumping 11 minute cassidy freestyles and shit lol. 16 year olds now would rather listen to a post malone or some shit than a joey badass

joey badass' fanbase is older than a lil yachty fanbase

the youth is what determines what pops, the youth don't give a fuck about hip hop.

Inno 09-25-2016 10:02 PM

Bit the argument that all hip hop now is trash is dead

There's plenty of great Hiphop being put out

Mr. J 09-25-2016 10:46 PM

Everything in hip hop is rapped though............

Ghost1 09-25-2016 10:52 PM

I'm not doing this exact same thread again w u uh oh lol

It's a passing trend

Everything will be ok bruh

You know Dr. Dre and Mos Def and Nas and De La Soul and Prodigy and Busta Rhymes and Q-Tip and Andre 3000 and Big Boi and Bun B and on and on have all worked with these young rappers, right?

i used kendrick lamar and drake as examples outside of mumble rap.

jay z is a business man. he's gonna sign whatever is hot at the moment to make money. if you remember back when rocafella was poppin he signed literally every NY dude who was ever dope in an attempt to strengthen the roster. mop/mobb deep etc. see how that worked out for him. why sign talent when you can sign a random hot mumble rapper and rape them.

busta rhymes is a drunk lmao. who'd he cosign tho, i remember him jumping around with ot genesis, falling off stages

the day a producer i respect fucks with them is the day i'll stop. you won't see premier cosign this. he'd rather work with real singers and make actual pop music. pete rock don't fuck with this. alchemist don't fuck with these dudes, he fucks with the new HIP HOP dudes. dr dre lost credibility years ago. he used to set trends now he follows them. just listen to that bullshit compton album.

the people i respect don't respect mumble rap. if you want to post the tracks with nas de la soul etc where they are collabing with a lil uzi vert go ahead i'll check them out

2tripple0 09-26-2016 06:24 AM

Werd sounds goofy see u @six kiss kiss pussy lol nah jk see wat I did there and as I continue its gusto's place I'm too above my growth tagging pics with audio your all on solid airway free speech step one book of rights shit bro that homie drop you anyways ya speech suck I inaugurate Congress like a shepherds witness it's this one here it sucks cause life is always better on the other side....

Certain 09-26-2016 08:48 AM

So when those guys work with ScHoolboy Q, then ScHoolboy Q works with Future, that means nothing to you. Also for a guy who says new rap sucks, you made this label of real hip hop guys that apparently includes a lot of rappers who care out in the past five-or-so years.

oats 09-26-2016 11:03 AM

a few minutes in, KRS has a really generous viewpoint of people in prison if he thinks they mature into remorseful men

Certain 09-26-2016 11:05 AM

I take it you're not too familiar with Lawrence Parker's world view, @quaker oats?

Also y'all need to keep in mind that KRS-One was declaring rap dead in 1995. His entire style was outdated by the time his second album dropped thanks to Rakim, and he's been bitter about it for almost three decades.

oats 09-26-2016 11:43 AM

I know next to nothing about KRS tbh. how would you describe his worldview @Certain.

I liked this video, and agree with basically all of it, but I gotta side with bags on this. mumble rap is gonna pass and good shit will always be around. and the good stuff now, I think, is just as good if not better than the old good shit, but that's another thing altogether.

uh-oh 09-26-2016 12:05 PM

Your last sentence lost me, but i dont care if schoolboy q collabs with future. I dont care when a hip hop dude collabs with an rnb singer either. I dont even know what we're arguing at this point

My main point is mumble rap is whats big right now not hip hop. It will pass like everything ever, no ones saying its gonna stay forever, no genre has stayed the same forever

If mumble rap is put under the hip hop banner, then hip hop is in its worst place of all time. I dont think its hip hop. They claim it though, stations play it, on itunes if you go under the genres its in there etc. Its garbage and its huge. Throwing out mid tier artists like they are whats happening now is ignoring that mumble rap bodies them in every modern metric.

Inno 09-26-2016 01:04 PM

I wish I could find that video of scarfacw saying this is all
Conspiracy to keep black people looking stupid and ignorant.

Sounds crazy but it has some value.

I'll look for it.
@uh-oh dj premier already consigned playa.

Did u see that part in the vid where lil yachty says not to put on that old ass beat?

That was a premier beat. Yachty called premier to squash any misunderstanding.

Premier is quoted saying he doesn't hate anything new that coming out. And that
He's got no qualms with yachty.

I'm sure if he was on that tip u on he would said something other wise.

But tbh only people I see hating is old niggas who can't sell records anymore. Lmao

Certain 09-26-2016 03:30 PM

I just don't know that mumble rap is "what's big right now."

Drake is what's big right now. J. Cole is a bigger deal than Future or Young Thug, in all honesty.

Certain 09-26-2016 03:52 PM

Scarface let Mike Jones and Petey Pablo on his album.

Inno 09-26-2016 05:22 PM

Wasn't his decision probably

uh-oh 09-26-2016 05:31 PM

Even if it was they are still hip hop. Mumble rap is like a genre of its own. And premier being humble and not hating isnt the same as a cosign. He has cosigned pete rocks hating on twitter, he consistently says he makes hip hop, "not faggot bitch shit" his own words lol. Him not beefing with anyone specifically changes nothing about his stance on the music

He says he listens to, shit whats them dudes names, MIGOS because he wants to hear whats relevant to the youth, but premes never switched up in regards to HIP HOP

And yea drake is huge, j cole went platinum i think too, a testament to what making lovey dovey records still holds. J cole gets my respect. Even if he makes the same song 20 times. Drakes been corny to me, but they are outside the mumble rap spectrum

The shits trash and what is relevant now. Just because a rock station in the 80s would play stevie ray vaughn or some shit it doesnt mean that fucking white snake or some shit wasnt what was more relevant

Probaly a bad analogy cuz ones the blues lol. But you get the analogy. Just because a few have success it doesnt mean the overall theme isnt shit

Sure there are good white receivers, but the majority are black and theyre ruining the game with their high thighs

Inno 09-26-2016 05:45 PM

BAM! There it is uh-oh is mad there's not enough trash white artists around.

Word let's all go get some yelawolf

Certain 09-26-2016 05:56 PM

To me, the most popular layer of rap has RARELY been good. Maybe in the early 2000s thanks to Jay Z / Eminem / Ludacris and in the mid-1990s because of Dr. Dre and Wu-Tang Clan. But for the most part, there's a layer of crap to cut through, whether it's MC Hammer and Vanilla Ice or D4L and Jibbs or Drake and Young Thug.

And some of even that top layer stuff is actually good. And there's a bunch of it that we like for nostalgic reasons, like early-years Cash Money. If you were 15 years older, you probably would feel about the Hot Boy$ the way you now feel about Future. I have very clear recollection of the days when New Yorkers weren't giving anyone from the South other than Scarface, UGK and OutKast the time of day. Lil Jon was once the most popular producer in the world, and while I love that shit, it's not like it's some higher form of hip hop than Metro Boomin's producing.

What I meant by that last sentence in that previous post was that you seem to have respect for or even like a whole lot of new rappers when you really put your mind to it. You just like the guys who work with Alchemist and Statik Selektah instead of the guys who work with Mike Will Made It and DJ Esco. That's more than fine. That's exactly like the days when people loved Rawkus and decried Bad Boy or the Atlanta scene as the worst thing to happen to rap.

Inno 09-26-2016 06:02 PM

The south was always trap never this mumble bullshit.

And word I remember dudes saying niggas from the south
Are just stupid and is why they can't write complex verses with
All the fixins lol.

Certain 09-26-2016 06:18 PM

Whose lyricism is better, Future or the Ying Yang Twins?

You setting me up boy?

But I wouldn't necessarily call them lyrical but if I had to choose
I would say future

Ying yang twins have legitimate disabilities.

I forget exactly what they have. Theeres video of them speaking on it

uh-oh 09-26-2016 07:04 PM

TIL THE SWEAT DROP DOWN MY BALLS

but word man i hear you. i've always been biased towards production. i place a premium on it over any other aspect. if a mumble rapper could rhyme over some crazy premier beat and have it make sense i would probably love it. i've never really been a fan of the newer style of beats with the note repeat hihats (that tititititititi tuh tuh tuititit ut shit) but that said i do fuck with alot of those beats too, if the rapper can save them. the problem is though at least for my preference is we got the dumbed down beats with the dumbed down lyrics with a dumbed down presentation. lil jon and them were at least hype.

shit like this was stupid dope

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ro8eaplsV8

the beats stupid simple, literally 2 notes on the keys in different octaves lol. but its got that lil john whistle synth thing like this track also has

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QQzJqXVq3uI

which is also fucking stupiddddddddddddddddddd but slams and was the shit.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aAe04bmWhEc

thats bangladesh on that, i thought 8ball and mjg had some lil jon shit from that era too but i can't think of it off top.

if any of that came out now i might not fuck with it. but then again i might though its hard to say lol

i can concede alot of it might just be nostalgia but alot of that top layer still seems doper to me. but i was also a teenager so i can't just put nostalgia aside

i remember coming into the first week of high school slamming this shit in a suburban with the older homies back when i was fresh uhoh and had fine ho's looking at me like wtf jimbeezy da god

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tYyNxm_vNKA
and i was just like word bitch i'm high lets go to homeroom and play footsies

uh-oh 09-26-2016 07:13 PM

now i'm in a loophole bro's

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ntkzs_Y4CGQ

you weren't thuggin back in the day if you didnt have to turn your jeezy da snowman shirt inside out in school THO

uh-oh 09-26-2016 07:14 PM

04-05 was the dopest shit for southern garbage lmao

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WYTBsN-KeNE

But all those aren't mumble rap or southern garbage lol

So is lil flip the same as lil uzi vert?

Certain 09-26-2016 07:39 PM

"Throw Some D's (Remix)" is probably one of the best songs ever. Well, at least Andre 3000's verse.

Inno 09-26-2016 08:06 PM

Geto boys my mind is playing tricks on me

Was my first taste of Hiphop.

U gonna tell me geto boys is garbage?

Certain 09-26-2016 08:06 PM

No one said anything resembling that.

Inno 09-26-2016 08:16 PM

I was referencing uh oh comments about southern garbage lol

I feel like he's including southern rap with this new age mumble bs

Or am I wrong @uh-oh

Certain 09-26-2016 08:22 PM

No, he's talking about shit like Ying Yang Twins and Mike Jones and other garbage Southern rap from previous eras.

uh-oh 09-26-2016 08:36 PM

yea certain followed my train of ridiculous thought

he mentioned how every era has the garbage on the top you have to dip through to get to the good stuff

the garbage on top now is mumble rap. the garbage back then was like what i was posting, but imo those ain't garbage lol, i was saying maybe its just nostalgia

but recent garbage, like im in love with the coco i thought was dope lmao. as well as that bobby shmurda shit was solid enough

so i'm thinking i still like some shit popular nonsense, but mumble rap on the whole i don't like
