stanford prison experiment 1971
So....just saw the new movie about this then read a ton about it.....
Any1 know about this at all or fuck w it? Shits crazy to me |
yeah it was nature taking its course. It's crazy to you because you're a dumbass, pretty simple concept; if you put people in positions of power they tend to let it get to their head (in this lol worthy example: Netcees and bags and diode). On the flip side people who know it's role play and were on the prisoner side accepted their harsh conditions as reality. We tend to accept strong realities and every human can be molded one way or the other. The stronger the reality is the more likely you are to get sucked into it on either side.

ignore the idiot above.
deeply flawed experiment that gets introduced to every juco phil + soc 101 course by sheer habit and i really wish it would just die already. @Batty @Veritas the invincible |
Yea I mean it seems like he just rigged it to turn out confirming his preconceived theories on the subject
Oh an I see idiot NYC completely buys into it Lol not surprised |
What abkut it would you like to discuss anthony. It is a fascinating *experiment*.
|
Idk....
What're ur feelings on it? It's legit? Or did he steer it towards his direction It was interesting when they did that more recent study putting similar adds in the paper one without the prison life study and one with....an the characteristics of the people that replied were completely different Tho on the other side of that argument.....real prison guards obv choose that job knowing what it is....so it's not much different in that aspect Idk it's alot to take in. Just interesting to me. |
the outcome should be
some people are sadists when consequences are minimal/nonexistent not all people hence a lot of COs. they want that life. truth is, though, it's a shit life with shit pay. some get off on the power and need little else. |
Whitey Bulger was in one for MKULTRA in prison
so was Charles Manson had MK Ultra in a lot of prestigious universities back in the day |
@bag is this the one where they let half the students be the prisoners
And the other half CO's? If so shit is bonkers lol. Humans are horrible |
That's not what this thread is about chyeaah
But I read into whitey a bit after watching black mass and also have interest in mkultra |

Word up shits wild lol |
That doc is dope tho.
Really digs into the notion that human nature is inevitable. Power is evil lol. After a couple of weeks dem niggas grew cop staches hahaha. I honedstly would of flipped out as a student playing a prisoner. Nigga u know this shit make believe right? Lol |
Word I mean it would've been blows if I was in there knowing it was just sum other students lol
Or maybe I would've just been bitched like the rest Idk I read that they rioted on day 2 which wasn't really in the movie |
So then its not real.
What stopped the prisoners from going off and basicslly Acting like real prisoners towards the CO's. Which in a real prison abuse like that doesnt go unchecked. A couple of CO's would of ended up dead. Instead. The prisoners never forget it was fake. So how real is it? I dunno just my thought on the whole thing Shit is mad interesting to watch. Dude seemed like he wanted it The way it went though. Or it seemed like he enjoyed it once it Started happening like. Yeah i knew this would happen Edit: for those who havent seen it. I found a clip http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=760lwYmpXbc |
saw the movie trailer, looks interesting.
should i watch the documentary first or the movie?? |
youre ignorant
|
Yes, Anthony. It was a legit experiment. It helped usher in more stringent ethics in psychology research.
Ask me Moar questions and I will answer. |

They made an actual movie tho....it's not a documentary I haven't seen the documentary which is maybe what u saw? But yea I feel u in what ur saying.....the whole thing is mind boggling |

Doesn't really matter if what he did steered the group or not as much as the psychological impact it had either way on the group and the setting they found themselves in. No matter how you look at it there's some strong data about group psychology in general even though it's a bit radical. You can kind of see the same development in places where groups of people get together and hierarchies form, maybe most prevalent in middle/high-school. I would STRONGLY advise watching the Stanford Prison Documentary and the Abu Ghraib Prison doc straight after, the Stanford prison experiment have been tied to what happened there a lot and for seriously good reasons as well. Interesting shit. |
