Probably sometime around Labor Day.

I may run a short-verse tournament before then.

sound 08-17-2014 06:08 PM

how would you order those 10 albums?

Certain 08-19-2014 03:22 AM

Those 10 or my own 10? I own and really like eight of those 10, but Random Access Memories is No. 1 on my list.

oats 08-19-2014 04:36 AM

I mean those 10 specifically. Any big departures from their list? I've only listened to 4 of those albums so I really can't weigh in on the list

oats 08-19-2014 04:37 AM

though I'm shocked that the top 20 didn't even have RAM now that you mention it. AMG>Pitchfork

Certain 08-19-2014 11:32 AM

I don't care for Tame Impala. I'd go:

1. Frank Ocean, Channel Orange

6. Vampire Weekend, Modern Vampires in the City
7. Deerhunter, Halcyon Digest
8. Beach House, Teen Dream

4. The Weeknd, House of Balloons (2011)
5. Kendrick Lamar, Good Kid, m.A.A.d City (2012)
6. The National, Trouble Will Find Me (2013)
7. Fiona Apple, The Idler Wheel ... (2012)
8. Deafheaven, Sunbather (2013)
9. St. Vincent, St. Vincent (2014)
10. Killer Mike, R.A.P. Music (2012)

Not bad. I don't like Tame Impala.

Benji is good not great. Gkmc isn't #2 probably in the teens. Wasn't as big a fan of Channel Orange as everyone else seems to be.

PancakeBrah 08-19-2014 12:26 PM

Have One on Me would be in my top 10

Certain 08-19-2014 05:59 PM

My imagined @El Pancake 2010-2014 list:

1. Deerhunter, Halcyon Digest
2. Kanye West, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy
3. Vampire Weekend, Modern Vampires in the City
4. Deafheaven, Sunbather
5. Joanna Newsom, Have One on Me
6. Death Grips, The Money Store
7. Beach House, Teen Dream
8. Fiona Apple, The Idler Wheel ...
9. Swans, The Seer
10. Danny Brown, Old

guys I know im going to face a firing squad for this but

its hard to take a best album list since 2010 serious

if it leaves off Katy Perry - Teenage Dream

with her 5 billboard number one singles from that album

Adele's 21 (which I shamelessly love) and Taylor Swift's Red are better examples of enormous pop hits that should be on a list like this.

21 was the top-selling album of both 2011 and 2012, joining only Thriller and the soundtrack for My Fair Lady in repeating.

But Pitchfork is Pitchfork. Their embrace of Nicki Minaj shows some progress off the elitism bandwagon.

PancakeBrah 08-19-2014 11:52 PM

Pitchfork gives good reviews to some pop acts.

I, too, greatly enjoy 21. Made a topic a long time ago about it.

In other news, I've been wearing out this song lately (just for the first verse, it loses some tenacity after the hook comes in)

Hooks ruin so many underground rap tracks.
