DOUBT IT

Zen 10-29-2013 09:12 PM

Where's that write night?

PancakeBrah 10-29-2013 09:18 PM

@Certain the more I listen to 'Reflektor' the more I think it's Arcade Fire's worst album. There are sounds and moments and songs I love. Gun to my head, though, I would never listen to it over any of their other albums. Still very good, but it almost feels like the 'The King of Limbs' of their discography.

YDK 10-29-2013 09:22 PM

job interview thursday for citibank...fingers crossed

A little beyond my taste in time at this point. For a weekday anyhow

I wouldn't make that comparison. It's just too big and ambitious. It's more like The Beatles' white album, in the shadow of Rubber Soul, Revolver and Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. But yes, it's their worst album. It's still good.

PancakeBrah 10-29-2013 09:39 PM

Eh...I think your comparison is too robust. The White Album is still amazing, and in keeping with The Beatles level of quality at the time. 'Reflektor' is something apart.

Zen 10-29-2013 09:53 PM

The White Album is my personal favorite Beatles album. Sgt. Pepper was the game changer but they were perfect on The White Album imo. I expect a response explaing why Sgt. Pepper is the best and I've heard it thousands of times.

Split 10-29-2013 09:58 PM

can we talk about Explosions or Modest Mouse or the Shins?

Zen 10-29-2013 10:00 PM

I don't know what that is, but I will talk about it.

Geno 10-29-2013 10:00 PM

Title Match: Mr. J (4-1) vs. Vividlyvague (4-1)
Vague is a good writer. 12 on a roll though. Got mr J winning

Contendership: YDK (3-2) vs. Frank (3-2)
Ydk is finally coming of age, frank is too strong a force. Easy W

Vulgar (3-0) vs. Certain (4-1)
Grat matchup. I like vulgar, could go either way though. Botw runner up

PancakeBrah (2-1) vs. NYCSPITZ (2-2)
This weeks dopest matchup. Botw, by far.
I like nyc. But cake da god. This is a toss up

Adonis (2-2) vs. Zenland (2-3)
Good middle tier match up. I like adonis, zen can bring it any given Sunday though

Mike Wrecka (2-3) vs. breathless (2-2)
Breathless is a dope ass writer. Diig his style and audio formatted verses. Seems to be audio friendly anyway.. but I got mike here with a little bit more cutting edge emotion

King Ra. (1-3) vs. Split Eight (1-1)
Gonna be a tough battle. If king ra shows, he's my pick
Split can take this tho

TYSON (1-0) vs. symetrik (1-1)
Not familiar with symetrik enough to pick him over tysonn

Genocide (0-1) vs. Lexicon (1-2)
Only you can tell it

Cope (0-0) vs. Witty (0-1)
Good match, I call witty, if he shows

ZYG (0-0) vs. Diode (0-0)
Zyg da gawd, I call an easy W for him
Not familiar with diode as far as topicals
But I'm very familiar with zyg.

Certain 10-29-2013 10:01 PM

I think Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band would be seventh or eighth on my Beatles list. Rubber Soul and Abbey Road are my favorites.

Explosions made one great album, their first. I'm sure their albums after that are just as good but I lost interest and just listened to Godspeed! instead.

I listen to Modest Mouse semi-regularly. It's funny to say, since it's their most famous single, but they peaked with 'Float On'. They have some great songs, though. Fuck, I'm going to listen to 'Float On' right now. Good to great band.

I love The Shins. What do you want to discuss? Phantom Limb?

Certain 10-29-2013 10:13 PM

The Moon & Antarctica beats Good News for People Who Love Bad News, though.
