I agree with him quite often. I don't think he's a great writer, but he is a good thinker. Not enough sports writers can say that.

oats 09-02-2014 11:29 AM

I just heard about him today, his shit sounds interesting. Any sportswriters you recommend reading?

Certain 09-02-2014 11:30 AM

Depends on what you're looking for.

oats 09-02-2014 11:31 AM

Anything interesting or well-written.

Split 09-02-2014 11:34 AM

Do you know any good sportswriters/ sites motorsports or F1? @Diode @Certain

Certain 09-02-2014 11:35 AM

There's just so much out there that not narrowing it down makes it impossible, @oats.

I don't follow open-wheel racing, @Split.

All right let me try. I prefer boxing and basketball coverage, and I like opinion pieces. I'll say it like this: if you were to introduce a friend to good sports writing - in the same way you'd introduce someone to Kanye West by selecting what you think to be the most palatable and engaging songs - what articles or writers would you point them towards? @Certain

That's a bit more focused. OK, for the NBA, Grantland's Jonathan Abrams and Sports Illustrated's Lee Jenkins are great feature writers, probably the best going right now. But no one analyzes the game better than Grantland's Zach Lowe. My favorite place to go to for quick analysis of breaking news, is CBS's Eye on Basketball blog, especially for Matt Moore. Yahoo's Ball Don't Lie blog is usually better written but takes longer to get updated, but you might like it more as it's a bit more intellectual in taking on the same stuff as Eye on Basketball. As far as traditional columns, well, I don't read a whole lot of them.

As far as boxing, ESPN's Dan Rafael is the guy you need to follow on Twitter because he breaks most big boxing stories, but there are better writers. I like The Sweet Science's Thomas Hauser quite a bit. SB Nation's Bad Left Hook blog is a good place for aggregation, where you can catch up on news. There are a lot of good boxing writers who don't write exclusively about boxing, too.

Often the best sports writing is stuff I just come across on Twitter randomly, things getting shared by other media members.

That's awesome, thanks. Gives me plenty to dig into. Appreciate it.

PancakeBrah 09-03-2014 11:38 PM

cosign the Zach Lowe recommendation.

I used to love that hornets team. David Wesley, Eddie jones, Anthony Mason, Derrick Coleman, Vlade Divac (later Elden Campbell).

Not quite the same team. That was the Wesley, Bobby Phills, Glen Rice, Mason, Divac team, with Dell Curry off the bench.

But the best Hornets by far were the Space Jam-era Hornets, with Muggsy Bogues, Larry Johnson and Alonzo Mourning. They ended up trading Mourning for Rice (in one of the most fair star trades in NBA history) soon after.

that's right. I used to love Mugsy. Mourning went to the Heat right? Was that were Rice came from? Then alter Rice for Eddie Jones before the Lakers won their first of the three?

Certain 09-04-2014 01:15 PM

Yep, that's correct. And Rice had easily his best years for the Hornets, even winning that one All-Star Game MVP.

The league is going to start up pretty soon. You can sign up. Once you do, once a week you'll get a battle in which you'll be given a topic. The limits is 650 words, and you can write whatever you want about that topic.

And yes, this section of the site might be a better fit for you if you don't want to dis your opponents.

You know i'm always around for help. and when it boils down, I'm dependable as shit. But I would like us to strongly consider having a third MOD because currently my momentum is at an all time low and I'd just feel more comfortable with three.

Not sure whom

But I feel like @YDK or @Vividlyvague would be perfect

basically three mods to help keep a "Certain" standard
