The fact that hes no showed so many times and has only gotten into the playoffs based on the fact that the rest of the "qualified" (via record) participants opted out due to time or lethargy or whatever. With all that in mind I dont think someone who doesn't effectively participate in the site or the league deserve it. Most of the OMs hes posted thatve gotten him om hof have been written for other leagues effectively making them feel like slaps to the face for the integrity of the hof.

Overall just because black is a great writer whos well respected doesnt meet the requirements of actually making the hof.

Just my 2 cents

word? i thought some shit i saw from his was really like 'timely' - but honestly i could be mixing dudes up, the top tier OM dudes get combined in my head a bit - kinda like darth & dull boy lol

if allah/d. llama didnt effing follow us around archiving the fuck out of our shit back in the day i'd have a ton of material to repurpose haha

Darth Yoda 10-13-2013 10:39 PM

Actually, only like 2 people think we're one, which is Mike and Geno.

Who cares, just do whatever you want, we're not one. I don't even fucking know you, fag.

NYCSPITZ 10-13-2013 10:39 PM

i known dallas/cristian/whoever else the longest i win

Darth Yoda 10-13-2013 10:40 PM

I mean if the criteria under HOF is all of that stuff, then, yeah dead man doesn't deserve it I guess. Idk I don't follow him around, I only read his OM stuff. But if we're basing stuff on OM writings alone, aside from stuff that was NS during topical leagues, then I should be in the HOF, actually.

5+ votes for DY in the HOF. I've also participated in a write week once, I think.

I can tell the difference sometimes but not always unless I look at your user names. I have very strong views on all of you.

dead man 10-13-2013 10:48 PM

darth you are obviously a reasonable fellow and i enjoy your writing as much as any of your buddies' stuff which is pretty much all stellar. i feel similarly about the HOF as it stands, but that does not change it's status as a real accomplishment which was our only point of dissent.

i made this thread mostly in jest. not to start a campaign or a movement. i rarely make threads and i was paging through the HOF a few days prior and it looked like sort of a ghost town. also pent up is the only non-battler in there if i recall correctly. something is wrong there when at least half of our active members are also active writers in the open mic. if you ask me, vulgar is someone who really deserves a spot. neighbor as well. these are diverse and decorated members who have been demonstrating their skill set for at least as long as i have, probably longer. and there's others.

perhaps i shouldn't be HOF'd and that's fine. but a dialogue should be opened about a sense of diversity in there. i mean these are the pieces and people that are ideally archived as the gold standard for the site. the whole site, not the NBL.

dull boy 10-13-2013 10:49 PM

I just forget who Zombie is, and sometimes I can't remember which of us was/is Darth.

@Zombie

And yes, black. Thank you. The initial reason why you came about is cool. I definitely think another OM writer deserves. A decent switch hitter who plays catcher, SS and 2B can be HOF as well as just a player who's primary and sole position is relief pitcher. @Pent uP presents a argument that says because @dead man isn't as "active" that he doesn't deserve it, cause everyone else on the HOF was. Or because he isn't as 'hybrid' as the others, he isn't. I get the novelty of the HOF. But @Pent uP is the only OM writer on there. And to be fair, I haven't really read any of Pent's stuff, lol. Black/Vulgar come to mind.

Certain 10-13-2013 11:19 PM

I dislike the intermingling of the words "topical" and "open mic." I'm a very good topical writer but mediocre at best at open mic writing.

Black vs. Vulgar death match?

Beyond 10-14-2013 09:25 PM

Black and a plethora of others are good enough to be in the HOF, but skill isn't the only prerequisite. I don't know why people keep bringing it up.

That would be the best topical battle I've seen since the RSTL $1k payout tourneys back in the day - like 9 years for real heh

the ONLY thing i dislike about Vulgar is his either legit OR contrived impartial attitude about the very craft he's mastered lol

Maybe 20 years after me.

Only reason I'm not in on there is because STRONGARM was my David Lama before David Lama.

but just in case, i'll compliment my original post to clarify that it was a 2-part compliment which complemented you for being even more disinterested in compliments than you are deserving of them.

alas, the ambiguity of my position was out-rivaled by the complimentary photo you posted.

and now i'll leave my comp lament

that season was stacked, super fun.

dead man 10-15-2013 10:28 PM

RHYME would have a much better chance of working out here than on PR but i think the website nativists would have a fit if we began a RHYME tournament here..

Certain 10-15-2013 10:31 PM

What was different about RHYME compared to AoWL?

dead man 10-15-2013 10:34 PM

well for one, it's a tournament not a league

and from what i gather it's just been a tradition for so long on PR / whatever the original site was that it built a legacy based on it's very high levels competition. also they had awesome fucking mags every week. (which AOWL also has)

Split 10-15-2013 10:35 PM

RHYME had higher line limits... ran for mad long... perceived prestige

Certain 10-15-2013 10:35 PM

You don't think I can write awesome mags? I can write better mags than any of you. I'm a fucking professional journalist.

And the RHYME I remember was a league.

Split 10-15-2013 10:36 PM

Certain, you are wrong

really?

idk. i only participated a handful of times but i recall a RHYME tournament for some reason

Certain 10-15-2013 10:39 PM

Perhaps. I know I was in it briefly, and for some reason I thought it was a league.

dead man 10-15-2013 10:39 PM

and youre a journalist @Certain? like for the newspaper or what?

This, and the fact that there wasn't a single weak link in the bunch. It was strictly top tier.

The mags were dope because they were super in-depth, you could read them over the course of a few days.

Not saying these things don't apply to Aowl, just explaining the lore behind the RHYME.
