I guess I don't think people reading other votes is all that bad a thing if it's done by mature voters.

dead man 11-18-2014 07:31 PM

and you're probably right in most circumstances. but at the same time, i can't imagine implementing something like that having any negative side effects to counteract the benefits.

this is the whole problem with voting in a nutshell. groupthink syndrome

a battle hack or something that could hide all other votes in a thread until youve casted your own would be ideal for these competitions.

@Knucklehead

do these exist?

Yeah

They do

Also a simple hack that in general makes it so you can't see post in a thread until you post would suffice for this site

dead man 11-18-2014 07:36 PM

well people have to see the verses at least? unless they both are edited into the first post which seems like extra work for moderators.

at any rate - maybe theres a reason that all but one battle this week were total blowouts?

He had a more thorough verse my vote went to what you bottled into a short verse
if you want to sway my vote to him. fine I wasn't even gonna vote but.the ext was in place
you show more emotion in a reply though congrats

King Ra. 11-18-2014 10:21 PM

I don't think there has ever been this many blowouts in an AOWL season ever.

look man if i am wrong i am wrong. no worries. the nature of your vote just got me thinking about how other people's votes can (potentially) affect your own take on the verses which is not necessarily supposed to be part of the contest. it is not a huge deal but i think it's worth addressing.

does that not make sense? I'm sure its been talked about before. but that is glaring example of the issue in question imo.

VOTING UPDATE:

Voting penalties are in effect if you do not complete your requirements. New signees need TWO votes, participants need THREE votes. If you vote but don't complete requirement, you will incur a vote penalty the next week. Don't vote at all, and that's automatic indication that you're not participating. With that said:

@Dominate @kannon @Storyteller @Mr. J @NYCSPITZ @Systemic Infection @Pent uP @UnbornBuddha @Vulgar thank you for your completion of votes.

@dead man @Defiant @Zen @zygote @Arid need one more vote from each of you.

@oats @Innovator @Soulstice need two more votes.

@Certain @CopyPat @Dove Dozer @Frank @Witty need 3 if you're participating next week.

Get're done nukkaz.

I'm not disagreeing with how voting has declined
I've seen glorified vets take the easy route out of voting
Which makes these new writers think its ok to do.
I've seen landslide wins that shouldn't be happening at all
verses that are terrific in every aspect of writing that are misunderstood
you act like this territory is new to me I've seen the fall of voting
I've had the misfortune of being shortchanged and shat upon
it makes writing a worthwhile verse boring now due to last minute voting
we all have lives and if writing is your life as well as others where do you grow
2 line synapses on a verse
..
nay I say....

I hate what things have come to
but I laugh at what it will be...

Dominate 11-19-2014 02:45 AM

Change vote to me plz. 7-2 is a respectable loss against deadman.

I like to read other people's votes though. Not to be swayed by their choice but you can glean insights that you might've missed yourself by reading them.

I was about to say something else and now I totally forgot what it was...

Dominate 11-19-2014 02:50 AM

Oh yeah,

Re: voting incentives

I think you should keep a running tally going trough the season of how many votes people are up/down (with 3 per week being the average required).

Then, if you get to -3 you're signed out til you make it up, if you're down at all you don't get picked for contender matches regardless of record, it could be a factor to separate people for playoff spots, etc

It's something to reflect each person's overall participation as a voter rather than just week to week.

King Ra. 11-19-2014 02:57 AM

Will be noted in the upcoming magazine and power rankings/standings @Dominate.
