I think you are being a tad nostalgic

Pretty sure I beat sacrafice on RB like my first week in SS...it was either him or soulstice I believe

Bladed Thesis went 3-1. sacrifice only lost to Frank.

Posting it because it's late here and I'm about to hit the hay:

A handful of people on this list probably competed in fewer than 10 topical battles. Show me where the original Defc0n or Sordswinga competed in a topical battle. I can tell you The Infinite Flow definitely didn't. (You might be thinking of RapMusic's Infinite Truth, who deserves a place on this list.) Even namix, as good as he is, told me he's only been in a handful of topical battles.

It seems like you're omitting some people from here on the basis of "THEY WEREN'T AROUND BACK WHEN!" Yet you left off oats and Soulstice, who are more talented than half this list and did compete actively against a lot of these people. Furthermore, their bona fides have been well established in others.

Topical battling barely existed before 2000, and it didn't start modernizing into the more complex styles we see now until 2003. So I think includinng someone like sordswinga, who was a trailblazer but not a topical battler, is sort of like saying KRS-One is the greatest Grind Time-style battler ever.

(Aside: I'm guessing they were oversights, but you missed RIKOSHAY and Fracture.)

This was my list from Aero's thread:

1. Richard Corey
2. RIKOSHAY
3. TaLi
4. SacriFICE
5. eN?gMa
6. Vern Acular
7. dead man
8. E2
9. Atheist
10. BlackJesus
11. Peril~Eyes
12. FaTHeR FLoW
13. Pulse
14. Warren Worthington III
15. oatmeal
16. Baron Mynd
17. Jowelz
18. Pent uP
19. Fracture
20. Three-Planes-Aligned

I'd edit that to move Three-Planes-Aligned up a little after checking out more from him. And I'd be willing to put zygote on the list just based on what I've seen here.

Clayray 08-27-2014 02:01 AM

Pretty soon y'all will start making Textcee cards and battling each other based off topical stats and rhyme skills.

Clayray 08-27-2014 02:04 AM

Are you going to make holographic cards for the really good people?

What about Textcee action figures that come with a topical starter kit?

Are they as collectible as baseball cards?

Are these rankings real?

I never said anything about them battling anyone else, the thread title was for 'topical writers of all time'

I made a list of a potential fifty, it wasn't whittled down at all or put into any order, just a list of some of the best to have done it.

I actually like Soulstice, he's a cool kid, but he isn't anywhere near some of the guys named on here and I've not seen him beat anyone in my top ten.

If you include RR, RB, LA, Project Rhyme, RMBVA, RM, NC, and BW I think you could pull at least 150 writers who have been active in the last few months

Granted RR and RMBVA are 90% rubbish.

I think you could compile a Top 30 where everyone on it would have real talent

I might do this lol
