It's okay for everyone to like what they like.
It's nice if people can try and see where others are coming from for enjoying what they do.

Iunno man
We just like different stuff

I didn't like it much the first time I heard it.

Then I stopped judging it and just enjoyed it for what it is.

Em is like Jordan when he came out of retirement
Dude still put up like 30 pts a game and people were like “he’s shit now”

The cup of tea nod to Stan’s chorus.

booth is 1000% correct in this thread.

him asking if you've made music wasn't a "i make music" standpoint, it was simply a question because anyone who actually understands the craft understands how difficult it is to be both complex, within the parameters of a flow thats fresh, while sitting within a beat perfectly.

eminem on the other hand is so skilled that you can see his shortcomings and spots where he either decides, fuck it, or forces his flow which in essence is also a fuck it. but all that said i completely understand what people enjoy in it.

we all listen to music for different reasons.

look at improvised jazz. or just alot of jazz in general, where all the musicians are going OFF with the most intricate shit. to me it sounds like pure fucking NONSENSE. but to the trained ear of a dude who plays piano, he's JIZZING on himself hearing someone go off like WTF this dudes the GOAT. meanwhile it does nothing for me. i'd rather listen to some smooth soul from the same era, that is ridiculously simple, just simple chord progressions, a rhythm guitar stabbing in on the snare etc.

its pleasing musically.

also i'm the wrong person to talk to when we're speaking about people relevant in hip hop in 2018.

i like that AZ was brought up though, but obviously "the format" should be used to display his lyricism. he's probably my favorite when he is 100 percent on point. he's never WACK. but he can be as average as any other "good" lyricist. the sad part is he is pretty average as far as good lyricists in hip hop go the majority of the time. but when he is on point its hard to compete.

but again there are different types of lyricism. i only like the mention of AZ with EM because they both tend to go crazy with schemes of multis while working in inner rhymes, and even rhyming entire bars for periods of time.

but then you have the black thought's of the world, who doesn't get AS complex as them, but his content of his bars is far beyond their shit WHILE still being complex enough to be masterful

and then you got guys like jay electronica who on the surface is NOWHERE NEAR them, from a complexity standpoint, but he is as good of a lyricist as they come. no ones writing like him.

thats just a few examples, its way too complex to really break down. but again i can't seperate the rapper from the music, thats why i can look at jay electronica in the same category as them without blinking an eye, while from your guys standpoint thats just silly.

but the problem comes in, that i completely understand your guys' viewpoint, and why you form your opinion the way you do, but you don't understand mine. its from a place of ignorance, whether self imposed or not. you either never wanted to see the skill in them or just never bothered to. im probably spoiled from my foray into pretending to be a beatmaker and being exposed to so many different styles you gain a different appreciation of how artists attack beats.

I actually think Az is better at rhyming then eminem tbh. Em has alot of corny stuff he uses to rhyme. Crap, poop and stuff like that & some of the most predictable multis. I generally think AZ on point is a better lyricist in rhyming depo. Always thought GZA the genius was a hell of a lyricist as well, Killah priest & Ghostface too

Video for Fall is so bad lol

The Donald Trump orange scheme on The Ringer is probably the best rap I've heard in awhile. I dont listen to rap though, much. The Ringer, parts of Greatest, Joyner Lucas on Lucky You, Not Alike (aside from that God awful hook), and maybe some sections of Stepping Stone are keepers. Nothing else. The Ringer actually is what everyone thought Rap God was.

I’d rather have a Budden tape in the whip than em and would prefer not to listen to either outside of that

So disagree
