Yeah, I agree. Actually the young guy I'm most excited about right now is Vic Mensa, who has the second (best) verse on Chance the Rapper's "Cocoa Butter Kisses." He's 19 but seems to have a ton of talent. Here's his first single:

idk if channel orange was a classic, but frank ocean more than a hook man dude

HE MAKES GOOD SONGS

and rap can sound good w/o all that grimy shit btw, i just seen that comment. A Tribe called Quest was never grimy b, they always just made dope music and sounded different

Frank Metts 08-25-2013 02:02 AM

Yeah Vic mensa got talent too

And dlb a tribe called quest was dope but they were more on the conscious side like early kanye. .. ssme with de la soul ... I fucks with all them heavy.... my point was these new cats trying to do grime snd its not working for them ... I enjoy conscious rap more tbh .. its better for the soul lol

Good music ...

Chaaaaaaaance

oh word then my nigga, frank, i ain't mean to come at u like that. u know i'm still the missing metts bro at heart, no diabetes

but word, i'm saying tho. classics is classics. whether it changed the overall look of something or just adjusted things to be different. So Far Gone & Good Kid Madd City both did those things, as much as i hate to admit, Drake changed the game and Kendrick did too. Kendrick got everyone trying to be hot, but he appeals to lyrical cats somewhat as well as mainstream cats somewhat. Drake had SFG making every nigga wanna sing on every hook of every song they got etc. JAY-Z even had The Blueprint 3 as an album w/ autotuned songs, but deleted it cause he dropped DOA on niggas. Drake when he was in that SFG mode before Forever dropped, he kept it real and split singing/rapping in half. he wasn't tryna be a mafioso thug or a soft ass pussy

Frank Ocean is one part Usher, one part Prince's R&B side, one part Stevie Wonder, one part R. Kelly.

I'm not saying he's as good as any of them, though I think he's better than Usher. But those are his influences. And it doesn't get much better.

MMLRLK 08-25-2013 07:25 PM

as far as 'recent' albums that are good front to back

schoolboy- habits & contradictions (& he says his new albums gonna be better than kendricks gkmc...)

dizzy wright- the golden age

the underachievers- indigosism

choo jackson- beer flavored pizza

freddie gibbs- cold day in hell

ghostwridah- downtown lights 2.0

young roddy- good sense

^^ & thats a pretty eclectic mix of artists so id be surprised if you didnt like at least one of those albums, but who knows
