I know they just found a new species of luminescent fish and sea life in an unexplored depth/ part of the ocean. I remember I used to be pretty fascinated with the giant squid and those stories/ studies, etc.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think that the conditions on our planet, even that far under the sea, do not permit anything other than carbon based life from existing. Again, not 100% sure, but I took a whole course on this a while back and I'm just recalling tidbits.
