I have also noticed similar things...one difference is other guys do it because it is an effective way of deflecting criticism, acting like you don't care, when in reality they probably do, using a fake niceness to try and keep your ego undented...my ego been dented for years, so I have different reasons, I do it because I have to make a conscious effort to fight off negativity in my own mind or my depression will get me in it's grips and I will probably kill myself.

I have to be nice, not for anyone else, for myself and my continued existence on earth.
