Alias tournament entries are due tonight, guys.

Certain 08-09-2014 12:33 AM

This weekend's list to debate will be Kanye West's five best songs. Here's mine:

1. "Blood on the Leaves"
2. "Can't Tell Me Nothing"
3. "Gone"
4. "Diamonds from Sierra Leone (Remix)"
5. "New Slaves"

big baby 08-09-2014 12:34 AM

all suk like ur life

oats 08-09-2014 12:53 AM

how strongly do you feel about blood on the leaves as his best song?

Certain 08-09-2014 12:54 AM

REALLY FUCKING STRONGLY.

I've never heard someone get so emotional about wanting his billionaire heiress fiancée to get an abortion.

oats 08-09-2014 01:05 AM

I am a fan of abortion songs, but to me that wasn't even the best song on yeezus. and yeezus is probably his 4th best album.

all of the lights, never let me down, drive slow, blood on the leaves, all falls down

no particular order. no particular conviction. just went through my itunes and picked.

All of those probably are in my top 20, if I wanted to keep going.

lol that's precisely how I feel about it

pancake's list is pretty much exactly mine, except can't tell me nothin instead of blood on the leaves. Never Let Me Down was one of my first favorite songs from Kanye, though I'm not sure if I could consider that one of his best. sierra leone might crash my top 5 depending on the day

Certain 08-09-2014 10:34 PM

I left "Gorgeous" off my original list. That's a big oversight.

1. "Blood on the Leaves"
2. "Can't Tell Me Nothing"
3. "Gorgeous"
4. "Gone"
5. "Diamonds from Sierra Leone (Remix)"
6. "New Slaves"
7. "We Don't Care"
8. "Murder to Excellence"
9. "Two Words"
10. "We Major"
11. "Coldest Winter"
12. "Drive Slow"
13. "All Falls Down"
14. "Power"
15. "Roses"
16. "Never Let Me Down"
17. "Bound 2"
18. "Niggas in Paris"
19. "Paranoid"
20. "Runaway"

you have never let me down on twice

dead man 08-09-2014 11:29 PM

1. through the wire. i still remember the first time i saw the video on TV. seriously the very moment is like this weird flashbulb memory. first time i had heard of kanye west and only when i recollect how much his music had meant to me and my friends at that time in our lives do i stop to really appreciate this dude.
2. never let me down
3. two words
4. everything i am
5. can't tell me nothing

pretty CD heavy but thats what it is...top 10 would be more diverse album-wise but truly a difficult list to compile for me. so many dope, timeless tracks.

Certain 08-10-2014 12:02 AM

I love "Two Words," too. That's up there with the GZA and De La Soul performances as my favorites on Chappelle's Show.

oats 08-10-2014 01:26 AM

lol Certain has a well-thought out list for everything. Simpsons episodes? though Two Words and the Common/Kanye performance are the two that stand out the most to me.

I have strong album biases, but this is my top 20 (I don't include Watch the Throne)

1. all of the lights
2. drive slow
3. all falls down
4. never let me down
5. can't tell me nothin
6. diamonds from sierra leone
7. flashing lights
8. gorgeous
9. homecoming
10. black skinhead
11. good morning
12. through the wire
13. addiction
14. amazing
15. spaceship
16. touch the sky
17. two words
18. roses
19. paranoid
20. blame game

family business and new slaves almost made the list

Witty 08-10-2014 04:06 PM

Sometimes I forget how many dope songs Kanye has actually made because...it's Kanye, and he's annoying as fuck so my instinct is to hate him.

Not many artists that came out within the last 10 years can boast the classics he can, if any.

I don't think anyone, established or otherwise, can match his output over 2000s.

sral 08-11-2014 07:01 AM

that opening horn sample on all of the lights though >>>

lmao i'm a huge Jay-Z fan, but his verse on the DFSL remix just completely blanked what Kanye was trying to do with the track

I can't think of a better song than All of the Lights that better encapsulates Kanye's persona. It's a cinematic, over the top, dope as fuck piece of braggadocio talent.

My backbone been solid big guy, come at me.

PancakeBrah 08-11-2014 10:24 AM

All of the Lights is so good Fergies verse can't take it down from the top 5

That says a lot

That's one of my big complaints about it. Fergie is not an acceptable M.I.A. replacement.

Witty, why do we agree on so much? It's starting to scare me brah :(

I love Kanye's music but I hate myself for enjoying it because he's such a piece of shit. Motherfucker thinks he can walk on water. Plus he's a racist. Every time he loses an award it's because he's black. Not because award shows pick the wrong winner all the fucking time.

But George Bush doesn't like black people.

Mike Wrecka 08-11-2014 06:09 PM

@Certain and whoever

I know ur into craft beer. I live right near the Blue Point brewery. It's obviously huge here. Was wondering how popular if at all it is in other areas

Certain 08-11-2014 06:10 PM

It's not particularly big. I doubt I could get any here, five hours away. But I've heard of it.

Mike Wrecka 08-11-2014 06:16 PM

That's a shame. Their summer ale is boss

Certain 08-11-2014 06:20 PM

@El Pancake, this might be my favorite song from this year:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ynkp1VHwbHg

It reminds me of "Hannah Hunt" in how often I've listened to it and how powerful the relatively simplistic lyrics are.

I'll keep an eye out, though I usually don't go for summer ales.

oats 08-11-2014 06:30 PM

I've never been much of a beer snob, but I'm painfully coming to the realization that I'm becoming a coffee snob. Yesterday I caught myself saying "I don't drink Starbucks - I use a moka pot." Goddamnit.

Certain 08-11-2014 06:32 PM

I'm not a beer snob. I had five Yuenglings yesterday while out with friends. I am a beer appreciator.

Mike Wrecka 08-11-2014 06:34 PM

I have really just gotten into the craft beers

Enjoying trying new ones. I have had a few Kona blondes from Hawaii. I will admit I thought of oats each time

PancakeBrah 08-11-2014 06:57 PM

im not a beer snob

i take bottles of jack to the face until i write something sad
