Derek Fisher used to be what Mario Chalmers is now, except he never was criticized to the same degree.

oats 06-13-2014 01:21 PM

Fisher made some undeniably clutch shots, but overall he was a weak link

El Muffin 06-13-2014 01:32 PM

Avg around 10 to 13 pts per game in his prime

Shooting mid 30s from deep

Assists were low obv because kobe too much iso..n shaq

But imho he wadnt below avg. Id say he was average

Let.me.put things into.perspective

SMUSH PARKER
ERIC SNOW
HOWARD EISLEY
CHUCKY ATKINS

mebe Avery johnson

Those r below avg pgs

K?

Overrated defender who never once topped a 15 PER and didn't actually hit that many big shots, all told, but instead hit a couple truly memorable ones only because Kobe Bryant trusted him because they came in together. And almost no team starts a point guard who averages 11 points and four assists a game. And Fisher's numbers barely improved with the Warriors and Jazz.

He was not average. He was not the 15th best point guard in the NBA ever.

None of that says anything about his coaching, though.

El Muffin 06-13-2014 01:51 PM

Compare him to.other 90s pgs during his time though.

Not many stick out tbh.

Im not arguing that he was good..in the grand scheme of things he was ok.

All im saying. I could pick like 10 that were worse

Dfish isnt a traditional pg..that offense didnt require much facilitation frm him

Certain I dont come from the bill simmons school of thought..too many intangibles affecting his per

oats 06-13-2014 01:57 PM

I agree with certain, though I'd be interested to see the disparity (if there is any) between his season and playoff stats.

PancakeBrah 06-13-2014 01:57 PM

Wow @ intangibles in PER

Lmao

Just.

Wow.

El Muffin 06-13-2014 01:59 PM

Why are you guys acting like PER surefire way to rate efficiency?

-bruce bowen had single digit per his whole career

BUT HES BELOW AVG

Cake there are many analysts who can give a fuckless about PER

PancakeBrah 06-13-2014 02:04 PM

I'm at work so I can't go in full detail on how asinine your arguments are but naming slush parker/Eric snow to make your point that fisher was average is horribly flawed. Those are below replacement level players. Just because fisher is better than them doesn't mean he's average, at all.

It'd be like me saying Mark Sanchez is average because he's not Ryan Leaf.

PER is 100% tangible. Its all number driven
Its not perfect by any means but its referenced, used, and long standing for a reason. It has its flaws; it is only for valuating offense (defensive metrics, like in baseball, have lagged far behind offensive metrics but strides are being made) and it favors certain types of players. But Fisher is a minus defensive player so his PER is reflective of his ability. What's funny is you're using intangibles (made a big shot, type of system he was in, etc) and saying PER is too intangible. Do you know what PER is? Do you know what intangible means?

Also, you said he was better than 10 pgs of his era (a claim that may or may not be correct). Which would make him...below average.

Just get it together. Critical thinking isn't your strong suit.

El Muffin 06-13-2014 02:11 PM

its not a surefire way of rating efficiency cake

Chill out. Extinguish the fire frpm under ypur ass

Bruce bowens.per is single digits yet hes not below avg rigjt?

HOLLINGERS PER IS NOT UNIVERSALLY ACCEPTED GUY

have u seen first take

PancakeBrah 06-13-2014 02:14 PM

Reread my post and try again. Thanks.

RD McFly 06-13-2014 02:15 PM

Leonard and Diaw taking all pressure off Manu, Duncan and Parker...the offense is too efficient and the defense is playing ball. Where is Beasley? Heat's offense is painful to watch.

All im saying is you shouldn't use PER to justify your argument because its flawed.

Bruce bowen is a defensive player (per making strides) I saw all that...

WHY ARE YOU ESPOUSING PER AS SUM DORT OF TEMPLATE FOR WHAT MAKES A GREAT PLAYER

stop contradict ing yourself

There has been a long standing debate about per..n the fact your oblivipus to it furthermore reinfirces my.point

Armchair basketbsll ass nigga

El Muffin 06-13-2014 02:31 PM

So we can agree u need to stfu with PER

I used the word intangible wrong. Wowee

Everything else is subjective is it not?

Ok

Finito

I think he was avg. You think he was below

Just dont bring up per again

Would u.like me to.name 15 pgs during 90s that were worse

El Muffin 06-13-2014 03:10 PM

Ok.

I looked.up derek fisher.most prolific season n compared him with starting pgs during that same yr

Only.found around 11 that I would say hes better than
@El Pancake

At least Kidd is a hofer.

But maybe hell be a good coach. He knows the triangle.

The triangle of being a BITCH

The mediocre players make the best coaches. And the better players make horrible coaches.

RD McFly 06-13-2014 04:37 PM

I think Fisher will be a good coach..

That's a popular adage. What with the whole 'talented players get frustrated when their players can't do what they do' and etc.

Seems a bit too simple. Reductive. Too small of a sample size to say definitively. Definitely not enough to apply it concretely to fisher.

He might be good he.might be bad. Who knows.

That roster is a fucking mess, though.

RD McFly 06-13-2014 04:55 PM

those who can, do...those who can't, teach...

Often true, but there are enough counterpoints. Billy Cunningham, Larry Bird and K.C. Jones are Hall of Fame players. They also join Phil Jackson and Gregg Popovich as the top five coaches by winning percentage in NBA history. Tommy Heinsohn, Jerry Sloan, Larry Costello and Bill Sharman all were very good players and great coaches.

El Muffin 06-13-2014 05:12 PM
