The structure and framework of Rainbow 6 is obviously influenced by the real world applications and structure of Naval Special Warfare Development Group, or DEVGRU. (Scuttlebutt speak for Development Group) More commonly known buy it's former Moniker "Seal Team 6", or amongst the teams and operators as "Rainbow". So called for their use of colors rather than numbers to designate their fire teams and components.

Developed in 87, Seal Team 6 was the name of it's predecessor, which is officially disbanded. The name was then inherited by DEVGRU. Highly classified, Team 6 is one of only 2 Tier 1 units known to be available to the U.S. The other being Delta. Their mission statement is one of unconventional warfare, and anti-terrorism.

Terrorism wasn't know to the general public until the 2000's? Are you serious dude? It wasn't sensationalized until then maybe; but there were friggin terror attacks by the IRA before then. Mid 70's, a puerto rican based group killed 4 people in a NYC bombing. Embassy attacks and kidnappings druing the 80's up to the early nineties in lebanon and kuwait; airplanes being bombed in greece and scotland during the same time frame. The FIRST World Trade Center bombing in '93. A truck bomb in '98, the same year the book released killed like 300 people and injured a few thousand.

I don't know how old you are, but I grew up in the nineties...we sure as HELL knew what terrorism was.

Rainbow 6 is CLEARLY based on DEVGRU; Clancy took them international, and gave some Delta characteristics, but judas priest dude, HE EVEN USED THEIR NICKNAME FOR THE TEAM.

I met Tom Clancy by Accident at Home Depot in bmore county awhile back he was very fat and old looking ... I didn't care to speak much to him much but this dude I worked with was sucking cholesterol out of the tip of his penis for some reason

I'm guessing his heart failed because the govt shoved Big Macs down his calorie trap till his arteries couldn't take it anymore
