There is 0 examples of how continuing to be so involved with this niche hobby is beneficial to him and his life at all.

Browsing NC surely isn’t beneficial to yours either.

Yet here we are.

Wasting our time when we probably should be.

I don’t get off on it. I make movies, I edit video, I enjoy seeing unusual camera angles used and prefer practical effects over CGI like Tom Savini would do. I enjoy the cinematography, the framing of shots, the score in movies like The Thing, I like grassroots DIY cinema because without these guerrilla directors we wouldn’t have the scene we have. I love everything about it. I’m more knowledgeable than your casual fan because I actually make movies and understand the behind the scenes stuff you don’t see and know how the effects were pulled off etc so i can speak about them and whether they’re done well or not. It’s way more to me than just what’s seen on screen within the movie, I can appreciate the technical brilliance that goes into it a lot more than your average horror fan looking for jump scares could. That’s what I love.

Well put. I also love movies and am the type to use the word film when describing them. It’s an obvious form of art. The subject matter you deal in I think says more about your subversive personality, I’d assume.

You guys are enablers and it’s disgusting. This isn’t a freedom conversation lmao.

Like I said earlier - employers have certain prohibited shit when it comes to the internet and use. Social media's a big thing now for employers. Many have restrictions due to legalities. But you have to be informed and acknowledge these restrictions prior to being hired as in a signed agreement or acknowledgement of the restrictions OR they can't hold it against you. That's why I feel it's something worth looking in to for him.

Depending on his field - they may have had a lot of restrictions regarding social media. I know my employer does which is why I limit my social media to only family members and my friends who I've grown up with and don't engage in political or topics about religion.

But you couldn’t do any of that in a corner of film that wouldn’t creep out 98% of people that come across your involvement in it? There are lots of indie film groups that don’t depict knife dildos being used. There are even horror film groups that don’t go that far. It’s kind of too convenient to call gore porn horror just because it is boxed and shipped as that.

There seriously isn’t an argument for continuing it. It’s clearly done more bad than good to you now. I’m not trying to hate on you like the hecklers are making it seem. Just saying man, you can’t possibly think it’s a good look to be involved in it. If you do maybe you’re just from a real out there upbringing lol. They fired you because of the content though, not the actions.

Yeah there’s lots of waste of time. Facebook too. Here. Reddit.

What relevance does that have to anything in this thread?

I watch/collect a lot of transgressive cinema. I like that it challenges societal norms or morals. It’s edgy. It could be a films title having an explenative in there like Dog Dick. It could be the artwork (there’s a movie where the case is a mold of the directors wifes vagina) or the film itself. Lots of directors won’t kill a child on screen. A lot won’t push the envelope so far as to show a rape scene or an abortion or any kind of aroused penis and so forth. I like the idea of constantly challenging these values. Pushing things that bit further. Challenge people’s perceptions and preconceived ideas. Shock people. Do things that haven’t been done or weren’t imaginable. There’s been transgressive cinema for YEARS that’s constantly changed what is “acceptable”.

I like that the movies aren’t all wrapped up in a neat bow and finished with The End. I like the bad guy to win. I like that there isn’t always a happy ever after.

LOL bro I’d worked there for 16 years. 16 YEARS. It was pretty clear I’m not and never have been a threat to anyone I worked with.

Tenure and your family was definitely not a consideration in the termination.

I guess that's how it has to be - emotionless when dealing with these types of incidents.

I hate having to terminate anyone, honestly. BUt I to have to be heartless when that time comes and can't let emotions get in the way of reality.

I agree. But you don't see how some (i'm assuming, and would put uh ohs 100 on) middle aged man or woman that works in government eating the same bran flakes and blood sausage sandwich every morning to fuel a day of gray suit cubicle busy work and goes home to watch home alone 3 and tell their spouse that hates them how it gets a bad wrap are going to think you want to kill everyone around you after seeing you talk about rape porn with a smile on your face 1000 times? s/he has no way of knowing if those girls that no call/no showed all these years aren't actually in your freezer

sral 07-11-2018 01:14 PM

It’s a pretty big leap to make from movie reviewer to murderer.

Rape and revenge movies are just a film sub-genre.

I Spit On Your Grave for instance. There are plenty of people who have seen that and not thought of killing anyone.

Close minded would be saying he should be jailed or put on a list over it.

I'm saying if he wants to keep a normal 9-5 job with people that think mayonnaise is spicy and pop music is getting really inappropriate these days he probably shouldn't make a public presence in an area that almost everyone around him will take the wrong way.

I'll take his reasons for wanting to be part of it that he gave me to dispute having a sexual fixation on it. Even with that it just seems like a bad call to engage in that community at this point unless he plans on working somewhere that won't fire him over it.

You can't just do whatever you want because the world should let you.

You really don't see my point? You realize you're not defending yourself against me.. I'm stating the obvious mind state of the people that fired you.

I've seen that movie. It was well made. I didn't review it and 1000 other films that weren't actually intelligent and well done, but instead were bad attempts at shock value. I don't think someone that does that is a murderer. But, I've watched that entire movie. Those people that fired you would not.

How? Do you know what ego is?
