To add to my last post, I should say that NOT letting your kids see movies like this isn't exactly being a bad parent, each parent knows their kid better than we do so it's silly to judge someone for what they think their kid can and can not watch because i don't know the kid, but i think mothers in general with young children ARE very uptight mainly because they are scared i guess, it's not a bad thing because at the heart of it the child's protection and safety is the driving force...so it is of course done through love, and that's commendable, though unnecessary sometimes I think.

Maze Runner isn't a horror flick. I'll admit, it probably is too intense for most kids. I saw Hellraiser at 8 or so, and I was fine. Pretty sure choosing entertainment for your children is more of a personal choice than a common sense issue, but that could be my book smarts talking.

Protecting them from it may prolong some sense of innocence, but I'm uncertain of what tomorrow will bring and I don't want them to be unable to handle harsh realities. Does that mean I'm showing them Faces of Death? No, but when it comes to some fictional movie with themes of mystery, friendship and bravery, then I don't think some intensity is going to scar them for life and have them wetting their beds at night.

I don't think it's society who has to stop treating kids like they're dumb, it's up to individual parents to not treat their kids in that way if they don't fit in to that mould, because some kids are dumb and some kids are more sensitive than others, it's up to the parents to really understand their children and know what is suitable for them and not just raise their kids in the way they are expected to or told to imo.
