Liquid swords underrated as fuck.
I have a lot of respect for ready to die, but there are so many skippable songs for me nowadays, I feel like it didn't age well. Illmatic has no wasted space, and still sounds fresh to me 20 years later. That's my take, at least. |

The sex skits (why do there have to be two?) are obnoxious, but I love every song. |
@Certain , my favorite song off Ready to Die
is the original , non faith evans , one more chance I might keystyle to this instrumental tonight http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U4N2sSnH1Us |

illmatic wins everytime. i do not have an analytical rationale because there is no word to symbolize the feeling of hearing "one time 4 your mind" for the first time.
|
Also, is Liquid Swords really underrated?
Edit: I can't believe Digital Dream Door (a decent music lists site, at least for rock and pop) left it off their 100 greatest rap albums list. But if you're going to put Illmatic 10th and Ready to Die 14th (below No. 13 All Hail the Queen), then you're not too credible in rap. |

the first six Wu Tang CDs were Wu Tang Clan - Enter the 36 Chambers Method Man - Tical Ol Dirty Bastard - Return to the 36 Chambers Gza - Liquid Swords Raekwon - Only Built 4 Cuban Linx Ghostface - Iron Man Liquid Swords is my least favorite of that group mainly because I dont care for Gza. He peaked before Enter the 36 Chambers was released imo. minus the title track and incredible art work that CD is a tad boring for me. |

Liquid Swords is on the short list. Up there with illmatic and ATLiens tbrefinedtastes. I've never listened to Ready to Die lulz. Don't particularly care to, either. BANG HIPSTER MODE FULLY ENGAGED KACHOW |

also, for one of my answers in the interview, which writer's i'm on the look out for here. i said pancake wrote long bar, but that was frank, so i forgot to mention frank, and i forgot to mention dead man. |
Yes.
100% You know I know. |
well fuh-uh-uck you wit! lol why you no vote on my verse then? is it because it wasn't very good and you knew i knew it?
|
I didn't vote on anything lol I read your verse tho and I liked it, though I have seen you write better. It was good tho.
|
@Certain I retract my previous statement about skippable tracks - I just relistened to the album and only felt like skipping Friend of Mine. The more accurate feeling I get is one of getting a little bored with some other songs, not that they're bad, just not captivating like every track on Illmatic is for me. There is a sheen to the production that's hard to resist.
and yes, Liquid Swords is a heavily underrated album. See Wrecka's comment immediately after you asked lol. I love it, but it isn't as easily accessible as 36 Chambers or Tical, and gza isn't as memorable a persona as method or ODB. I think it's easy to overlook. |
|
"Friend of Mine" has a really, really raw flow. It's up there with "Notorious Thugs" for the best of Biggie's career.
|
his flow is always great, but lyrically some of the shit just gets old. I've always been bored by songs about fucking bitches tbh, with exceptions of course. I'll take Notorious Thugs verse all day as my favorite Biggie verse.
|
i'm gonna vote illmatic over ready to die.

notorious thugs verse, dying to live and juice are my favorite verses by biggie. shit sorry for double posting |
oh I love the thug shit lol, fucking bitches just seems corny to me more often than not. like am I really listening to this dude talk about how awesome at sex he is? if I was around someone saying that kind of shit conversationally I'd probably just make fun of him. an exception for me is:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f-GDzhYFZak |
My favorite verses by Biggie are "Everyday Struggle" Verse 2 ("I'm in the caravan on my way to Maryland with my man Two-Tecs to take over the projects") and "Things Done Changed" Verse 3 ("Shit, my mama got cancer in her breasts; don't ask me why I'm motherfucking stressed").
On "Friend of Mine," I'm just talking about how raw the flow is. |
lol at that song.
i agree about it being corny. for me, the thug shit, as you put it, i can listen to if it's done well, but it's not something i want to listen to regularly. this always makes me undervalue guys like tupac. i don't listen to nas nearly as much as i should. there's a lot i don't listen to just because i can't relate to the lyrics. |
haha i'm not even in this and i read alot of this, sick jobs with the mags as usual, makes being in the tournies etc. so much more enjoyable. hella props. lol'd at a few parts. also listened to curtains audio shyza. loose balls ftw. gj, peace.
