you tell yourself that god and jesus or whatever is real, you don't worry and your a good person. i tell myself i don't know, and i'll never know, so who cares? we both arrive at the same destination. and that is not paying attention to the fact we are hurdling through space on a rock with some life in an infinite universe |

Pascal's wager is garbage.
I don't really feel like typing it all out, but yeah, it's bullshit god is a concept by which we measure our pain |

How is it garbage? Please do explain because logic would indicate otherwise.

look masaii, Here's the problem with pascal's wager: he says that if you bet that there is a god in life, and it turns out that there isn't you lose nothing. In reality, you lose everything, because you've just based your only life on the presumption that a fake thing exists, and trying to please that fake thing.

Peep avy...he is coming

@Destroyer
thats wrong though obviously made by someone who hasnt cross read multiple doctrines. It even states in the Qur'an 2:62 Those who believe (in the Qur'an), and those who follow the Jewish (scriptures), and the Christians and the Sabians,- any who believe in Allah and the Last Day, and work righteousness, shall have their reward with their Lord; on them shall be no fear, nor shall they grieve. And even so your graph doesn't raise any argument it just added more religions to the graph which illustrates the same point. |
yeah, that's why I typed out my argument

This isn't true IMO. The Bible is a morale compass, it doesn't forbid good things like swimming in a pool and eating berrys lol, it forbids immoral acts that I dont perform anyway regardless of religion (except for sex before marriage which is pretty standard for todays society). Its made me a better man compared to the dickhead I was in High School so at the end of the day whats so bad? I dont preach the Bible to anyone or try to convert people, I keep to myself about it. People like the Westborough Baptist Church are terrible though, they ruin the religions image. |
lol
|
So how has not beliveing helped any of you?
|
by allowing me to live my life according to my own moral compass rather than 2 millennium old dogma
|
i stopped believing in a "God" but i believe there's something up there or around the world. the same shit that can get you into "hell" can get you into "heaven" and the Bible just sounds stupid imo. i read that shit at age 4, thought it was dumb. been reading lots of encyclopedias and etc since and the concept of a "god" still sounds dumb to me 14 yrs later but people act like you can't have an opinion on religion

What if you were a devout follower if god, whether Muslim, Christian, or Jewish and you got to the afterlife and found out Krishna or Zeus or any other god was the real god? Wouldn't that be some shit.
Or what if in the afterlife all gods exist and they each have their own territories and the Christian god's territory was like a trailer park and everyone else had mansions? Idk I'm just drunk. |

religions are living things which are constantly growing and evolving. People feel as if there is some axiomatic, rigid, unyielding truth to their particular sect but the fact of the matter is there is a positive and negative to all of these beliefs. To be sure, the heaven/hell concept is ludicrous and obviously why more than 95% of all somewhat intelligent people don't believe in that nonsense. What happened according to scholars like D.T. Suzuki is that the concepts extolled by religious leaders became overshadowed by the awe felt by that religious leader's following. This continued for centuries until eventually the inane notion that the leader was god incarnate came to be. It's happened time and time again with thousands of religions throughout human history. If a Christian rapist repents he goes to heaven but a good atheist doesn't he goes to hell? Lol, obvious bullshit. Anyways, I bet it's either eternal sleep or we leave our bodies and experience a different dimension.

i am a theist - not atheist - who sometimes does not believe in God
(rather; i forget) but has God believe in him. so it's ok. i always want to punch people when they mention Dawkins, also. there's this kid in the class i just started and it's inevitable that i end up being his dentist. sry prestigious institution that shouldn't have accepted me. |

Why would he let u in his kingdom if u refused to acknowledge him? A rapist repenting is more of a heart thing to me. God knows our heart and we are judged from that. Just cause a rapist has made an earthly repent does not mean he has achieved repentance thru god. That's going to take a lot of sacrifice. Imo

I think that when you die, your consciousness fades away into nothing. You lose all your memories, characteristics, hopes, dreams, thoughts, feelings, electrical impulses... you cease to exist.
I feel like the fact that you, me, or anyone else has experienced consciousness on a human/ animal level is pretty insane... like the summation of all your neurons, chemical imbalances and brain cells happen to be labelled as you. And that same idea is applied to every living thing that makes decisions, there is really an insane amount of life force out there. And by life force I just mean electrical signals generated by organisms. So I mean, when you faded into consciousness at two years old, if you remember it.. what were you before? A smaller collection of synapses? More fragmented memories? More simple neural byproducts? Idk... people get WAY too hung up on the idea of clinging to life. And if you spend your life as an existential mess, trying not to waste every second, or believing that it has already all gone to waste, then no doubt your life is gonna be shit. And there's no saying what happens to life when it's gone. If death is entirely cellular, or metaphysical. Those two ideas contradict each other on so many levels. Religion, philosophy, spirituality, are all efforts by people to stablilize their life and thinking and frame life in a way that lets them live it. I don't think that is dumb. If you have to leave a light on in the hall in order to fall asleep, maybe you should do that, and maybe people should realize it doesnt matter in the grand scheme of things. Or maybe not, and you just shouldnt take life so seriously it needs a frame of reference for you to bear living in it. If you have to believe in God/ religious texts in order to live your life the way you want, then you should do that... people spreading religion are just trying to spread peace of mind. And if you believe in God cos of undeniable proof that you have witnesses or something, that's legit too. I'm not gonna ridicule it out of you lol. Either way... I'm not qualified to say if there is a god or driving force/ external starting point to our universe. I'd live my life pretty much the same way either way. And my thoughts on birth and death would stay the same. |
