I respect the musical talent, and the huge influence on other artists. And it's very sad that a man has died... But honestly, I just don't like any of Prince's songs or music.
It's just not my type.
Same could be said for David Bowie for the most part.

Most of their songs I could do without-- like, to me most of Prince's songs suck. TO ME.
even though he had a shit ton of talent and production and influence.

And it's not trying to be a too-soon humor or anything.
Just so happens people start talking about this stuff when a legend dies.

Witty 04-22-2016 03:18 PM

RIP my mother played his music around the house constantly while I was growing up.

He was a special talent.

Witty 04-22-2016 03:19 PM

RIP to Chyna as well...probably the only woman I legit had nightmares about.

Remove your eardrums.

You don't like ANY of Prince's songs, or David Bowie?

ANY?

Are you sure?

SHECK WES 04-22-2016 05:07 PM

He did purple rain

I like a few Bowie songs.

Admittedly I haven't heard too many Prince songs, but that's because I haven't heard a Prince song that I wanted to hear twice.

I just listened to Purple Rain.
Good voice, good emotion from the guitar, but to me it's just a boring 80s song.

Pharaohs Army 04-22-2016 06:34 PM

basically I've always wondered: what's the big deal about Prince.
Thought I'd make that sentiment public, since every single person seems to think the music is amazing.

It's just musical taste I guess.

Gonna keep my eardrums !

no hate, people can like what they like. no biggie.

just curious though how old are you?

Pharaohs Army 04-22-2016 06:50 PM

32

The Dead Poet 04-22-2016 06:52 PM

word? Same age as me. that's crazy. I grew up heavy on that era of music. Shelia E, Stevie, Marvin, Stevie B, Isleys all that shit... I thought for sure you had to be 24 or something lol.

Pharaohs Army 04-22-2016 06:57 PM

there's not much 80s music I like across the board.

I can't say that about the 60s 70s 90s or 00s.
Talking multiple genres.

So I guess that might have a lot to do with it.

Certain 04-22-2016 07:00 PM

But Prince was very good in the 1990s, 2000s and even 2010s.

Go listen to "The Cross" and "My Name Is Prince." Two completely different genres.

Certain 04-22-2016 07:04 PM

Prince also played every instrument at a high level. Every single instrument. At the Super Bowl, he did perfect covers of four or five other musicians just because he can. So maybe you're just an uninformed shit person when you get your jollies off asking what the deal is with Prince.

PancakeBrah 04-22-2016 07:16 PM

Will do.
Thanks. I admittedly do not have a lot of expozure to the # of songs.
I know he was sick@ all instrument & great live & could write/produce/ the whole 9 yards.
I'm sorry if I'm talking about personal musical tastes the day after.
I don't get my jollies off on it,
it got some genre/decade suggestions4us,
And I will also check out dancake song and the fag bag's song and other songs ppl have listed on the favorite thread.. Eventually...
Big babee needie a Timeout though.

PancakeBrah 04-23-2016 12:11 AM

I mean...

Prince was one of my many blindspots. I knew that people, both online and off, regarded him crazy high. I mostly knew him through singles and Dave Chapelle. I legit think Raspberry Beret is too dope. His half time during the worst super bowl of my life was great. If he was still alive I'd probably say whatever. But why the fuck would you take the opportunity to question his relevance in a thread about his death? Respect is a thing. A word you can say out loud. This isn't the hot take zone. The dude was a Midwesterner who played the living fuck out of every instrument he touched and was blessed with some otherworldly pop song writing chops. You hum Prince songs you didn't even know he wrote. You're not getting extra credit for being too cool for Prince's death.

Did you know he wrote alot of songs for people and put them under an alias

Nobody knows how many songs are put there like that, but if true its crazy

Pharaohs Army 04-23-2016 01:11 AM

I'm sorry, not questioning relevance.
Only talking about musical tastes and genre's.. i am sorry that the only thing that made me think of prince musically was the day after people were discussing his passing and legacy.
I not tryin to be a superhero or border or anything annoying troll or extra credit.. I'm too used to Album lists and debates, &i did not feel emotionally what prince-lovers and prince listeners listened to.. so i wrote an untimely opinion of a big time artist i hadn't heard enough later songs of.
Sincerely pharo

Why the fuck post then? If you don't like Prince's music just avoid the topic. More people have made children, like real babies, to his music than you have over-abused words in your open mics.

raaaaaz berry Burr ayyyy

Pharaohs Army 04-23-2016 01:44 AM

I'm sorry, I posted in the spirit of inquiry about good music which I know was good music, but i had not been heard enough of to fully appreciate (RIP) .. I now realize I should not post at such a time.. Sometimes I talk before I speak, I'm immature at times and have some problems at times.
If there's a way to delete it(theh comments) I will, or pls ask a mod to delete it.
And Yes, I do abuse words it gettin bad to he point where an UNPOSTED line was about me overusing some words, but that of course includes another use of them.
Prince influence lotta babies and artists and musiclovers and men and women of all ages and backgrounds for many years.
I will try to not post all over the place and be a weirdo.
You too though; Toodlie-doo.

Batty 04-26-2016 11:28 AM

Damn bros, I had just watched Purple Rain again like 3 or 4 days before tragedy struck. Prince was the shit. I also always dug Morris Day and the motherfuckin Time.

Madonna better hulk up.

Right? I was just talking about this the other day.. Michael Jackson, Madonna, and Prince were the "big 3" at one time. Madonna is the only one left

Batty 04-26-2016 12:52 PM

Totally agree that as far as pop icons go, those are the top 3.

Of course we have had other giants in music, you could say Elvis, Lennon. Cobain, Mariah, Elton John, Garth Brooks, etc but seriously, Madonna, MJ and Prince have defined the genre. They established the audio/video pop music format that is still the norm today.

Whether it be album releases, music videos, movie roles, live performances or whatever - they set the standards.

There are no current stars even close to that level. Also, it will be extremely hard for ANY other star to reach that level because music has changed so much since the late 70's and 80's. It would be almost completely impossible to reach album sales like Thriller because it's so easy to bootleg and torrent/etc.

Something will have to change in music, big time.
