Single malt is the way to go. Glenlivet 18 should suffice.

I prefer Glenlivet to Glenfiddich, most of the time. Glenfiddich is a little more fruity, while Glenlivet is more oakey. That being said, Glenlivet 18 is probably my favorite. The 15 was a little underwhelming to me, but the 12 and 18 are both dope.

the glenlivet 18 I hear is highly regarded, I havne't tried it yet so I have no comment other then it is highly regarded.

Everyone knows wtf a blue label is, but thats different than the other two entirely. That caters to a whole different type of person.

I just got my dad a glenfarclas 25 for his bday this last July...He says its one of his favorites next to the auchentoshan 21 year.

I'll actually make an addendum: If the groom is the type of guy who normally drinks vodka or juice-based drinks, get him Johnny Walker Blue. He's not going to appreciate the complexity of a good single-malt Scotch, but he'll go for how smooth Blue is.
