lol i'll usually buy them if i like them within a few chapters. otherwise i have no real way of knowing if they are good or not apart from going to a library and reading which i do not want to do
Fair enough. Just know that most writers are struggling to live by way of their craft alone, unlike most musicians. It's a difficult industry to be in.
i agree w u oats...i lways buy books..even go to the library when im skepticaal n will rent..but yea writing is hard as is...now w piracy of books smh...
Rawn what's your goodreads account? I ain't got no friends on there
hold on tho. don't authors get monies from movie deals? i know not a lot get them but they still rake in money from it right?
but still i agree its a super struggling industry |
yeah there are a few writers who are excessively wealthy (JK Rowling, for example), but most of them work their ass off before seeing even modest results.

@oats ...by the st we've conversed on i highly reccomend Oryx and Crake to u...i feel like u got the right mindstate to truelly appreciate it (only other person i think that colld to teh same degree is @Chyeahhh!!! - n ive reccomended it to him b4 as well) its by Margaret Attwood (she wrote 'A Handmaidens Tale') 'Oryx n Crake' won like the Booker Prize and NY Best Seller..
@Artemus u may enjoy it too...judgin by the few convo's on correlating topics that we've had, mind u im just gettin a feel for ur persona...but if ur names more then just a name, and my judge of character is correct (which it usually is) it may b worth picking up |
yeah you have brought that up, and I heard it's good. I've read a couple of things from Atwood and I like them a lot, I'll def put that on the queue.
word i started reading handmaidens tale, but something came up with irl...so i had to stop, and i wasn't to into it that i felt like going back, kinda femalish story...but thats kinda the theme w thaat one...its said to b real good tho, as was the writing as always w/ atwood, but it was on loan from library so..yah, ne ways oryx n crake r part of the 'mad adam trillogy' but its the only one i read, prolly all superb tbh..what have u read by her @oats ?
also u ever hear of the 'level 7' srs by the dood who made the original csi (long foreign type name) along w Mark Ecko?...that shts dope too...totally diff type of books though...but its got accompanied webisodes so thats pretty cool. |
Oryx and Crake sounds cool, it's post apocalyptic or somethin?
yea...kinda its hard to explain...like it is and then it also flashes back to what caused the apocalypse...it ties in a lot of the sht we speak on, science v god, genetic engineering, intelligence, biomodification, n then more tangible things kidnap, rape, child exploitation/human trafficking...its dope n macroscopic...hard to summerize n i dont wanna ruin it. @Artemus ...story is very well wrote and keeps u intrigued.
@Rawn MacDon I've read a number of short stories by her (Happy Endings is a good place to start, I think you'll dig it. plus you should be able to find it online). Only novel I read was Pennelopiad, which I really liked.
word..thats actually the one i wanted to peep tbh...i picked handmaidens bc it was more 'critically acclaimed' but that intrigued me more tbh..i shoulda gone w it...im not a big fan of short stories...like i read some Vonnagut shorts n it didn't really connect the way the novels do...i unno...atwoods a diff beast tho.. @oats
i read short stories by john grisham tho 'ford county' and that sht was dope @Bags (only cuz i kno u like grisham) |
I dig short stories, probably my favorite medium for reading. Try "Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been?" by Joyce Carol Oates, "Escape From Spiderhead" by George Saunders, or "The Lottery" by Shirley Jackson. You can google those and find them online pretty easily.
