10-Minute Short Stories

Step 1. Place 10-20 pieces of paper (fortune cookie paper sized) with short story topics in a small box (I use an empty pop tart box) The topics are like 'haunted house' or a piece of dialogue like 'No, don't do it!'
Step 2. Compose a complete short story in 10 minutes or less.
Step 3. After 10 minutes, think on if you want to go further on it, using the outline of beginning, middle and end you've written.

I've done this many times... great exercise.

write an internal monologue of a young British prince who strongly wished he was of West African descent, and wrote in Ebonics in his poetic epistles and discourses to the new world

be sure to include his eventually exposure as a faker and the branding of his ass with his fraudulent pen name, after which no one took him seriously as a politician nor as a writer

Alternatively if you don't have paper; Write 10-20 short story topics and label each one 1-xx and use a number randomizer on the net. (Here's one you can use; http://andrew.hedges.name/experiments/random/). I'm definately going to do this. :) Dope idea.
