@Certain can you explain to me the difference between "Record of the Year" and "Song of the Year" for the Grammys?

I cannot.

According to Wikipedia, Record of the Year refers to the specific recording. This means covers are eligible, and the credit goes to the recording artist. Song of the Year refers to the composed song, and the songwriter gets the credit.

I still don't get it.

I also don't know how Best Performance fits into this picture.

I'm pretty sure it's just antiquated because in the 1950s and 1960s, a lot of hit songs were covers.
