i didn't use it as a noun, re-read the sentence again.

(consider an invisible i.e. before analysis)

oh, and now you got it, thanks.

PancakeBrah 01-05-2014 10:04 PM

word. it would be 'parsing' then.

either way

you wrong.

Ryan 12 01-05-2014 10:07 PM

okay, then why place analysis in brackets, since it means precisely the same thing, brah?

Fig 01-05-2014 10:08 PM

White niggas arguing over parsnips

Damn the hood done changed

Certain 01-05-2014 10:15 PM

Instead of "for parse," it should have said "to parse."

Ryan 12 01-05-2014 10:17 PM

actually, i just realized i should have replaced "for" with "to"

oops

(edit - what certain said)

PancakeBrah 01-05-2014 10:18 PM

Yes. But if you were to use for, 'parsing' makes the sentence work. Both options work. But 'for parse' doesn't.

@Certain for confirmation.

Ryan 12 01-05-2014 10:21 PM

i was being abstract, though. that's my excuse.

as in, do you even parse, bro?

it's grammatically overridden.

Wise Wiggles 01-05-2014 10:22 PM

I 8 da parsley

@Certain for confirmation.

"For parsing" works because "parsing" is used as a gerund noun. (An argument could be made that an article is required, such that it should say "for a parsing," but articles are not always necessary.) Moreover, PancakeBrah, your initial analysis was correct, that "for" requires a noun.

remember that guy who studied english at oxford?

and he couldn't use the word earnest correctly?

lmao fuck him.

@Ryan 12 use abstractions as a last line of defence. also: definitions are the last resort of the scoundrel.

Ryan 12 01-05-2014 10:25 PM

irony 101; i call @Certain to parse Totoro's op - he ends up parsing mine

Certain, just be happy i called you to do the parsing (since i figured you were capable of it)

Fall back with the profanity. You called me here, so show some respect.

PancakeBrah 01-05-2014 10:35 PM

Certain get me a job as an editor.

Eŋg 01-05-2014 10:38 PM

@Certain will you proofread my assignment comparing and contrasting A Prayer for My Daughter (Yeats) and Frost at Midnight (Colerdige). it only asks for commentary so i don't have to show a wider reading/it's pretty straightforward.

i wouldn't ask but i actually have no one because normally i'm the guy. that they ask. to proofread things. you know?

y/n

you seem like you know how to english
