Reminds me of that episode in Criminal Minds where the main antagonist aggressively shouts "I am God!", before blowing himself and his fellow students to bits. Analysis assumes that this delusional and false ideology was the only way in which he felt a sense of power, making up for his real-world inadequacies and overall irrelevance. He was afraid that he was normal, that he wasn't special.
