Blue Note>>>>>
if you like that sort of jazzy hip hop instrumental stuff (really just plain modern music, imo) and you haven't listened to J Dilla, just stop not listening to him. recently i've been listening to a lot of Spoon as well as Glocca Mora or however you spell it |
Spoon has been a personal favorite for quite some time. Never listened to J Dilla. Will check it out. You put me onto Chance the Rapper so I respect the rap suggestions.

You once told me you hadn't ever listened to The Smiths, which is silly.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H888yfanNr8 I'm trying to think of recent things I don't know you already know. I think I remember you saying you don't like Chvrches, which makes me sad. Dirty Projectors are sometimes great. Jason Isbell? A little bit country, but not too country: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LHJhyrrUTgc |

@PancakeBrah ever listen to Ween or Queens of the Stone Age? Both are excellent bands in very different ways.
|
QOTSA is one of my favorites, for quite some time.
I've tried to get into Ween. They're like The Fall to me; I understand the clamor but something is off to me. I'm willing to try again to get into them. Here's one good song for the dozens of rec's you hero's have given me http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LnWdozSz3eU |
I'm guessing you're completely familiar with the Flaming Lips. If you're not, THE FLAMING LIPS.

you ever hear those joints that james blake and chance the rapper have collabed on cake?
|
^^^true that. Flaming Lips are dope.
Animal Collective is also up your alley. Bedouin Soundclash is worth checking out if you're into acoustic style music with reggae-ish vibes. The Beta Band is another winner. Black Keys I'm sure you've heard of. Brothertiger is dope if you're into electronica/yacht rock Corinne Bailey Rae The Cure Discovery (band, not Daft Punk album, which is also extremely dope) was on steady repeat for a long time. Dispatch was a huge influence on me when I was in hs/early college Electric Light Orchestra is one of my all-time favorite musical acts, in any genre. Flogging Molly is a fun band Fratellis, too Katchafire is prob my favorite contemporary reggae band. all good, but if I were to distill those recommendations, I'd go with the bolded ones. |
