It’s dead bruh.

This wouldn’t be a topic if it didn’t need to be.

Master Rock 06-12-2023 11:36 AM

I looked at RB and it looks pretty much the same. I'll probably sign up later today.

Objective 06-12-2023 05:16 PM

RB & NCs should have teamed up years ago. If the vibe is chill I'll tag along

what if AOWL moved platforms?

I've been considering creating a decent tournament platform for a while just never gotten around to it (I do website shit).

It would probably take me ~4-8 months to get something solid going with the time I have.

il be down

things could include: blind voting (can't see who posted which verse), votes that don't reveal the "breakdown" until after the voting is complete, a majority of modding things automated (setting up battles, no-show reminders, voting reminders, cleaning up, etc.) probably still need mods though... ability to create leagues (so it's not just exclusively to aowl that's just all I care about and therefore it'd be designed with that in mind). I'm sure I had other specific ideas but nothing is coming to mind rn.

more questions? more answers.

they def need improving

This one isn't too hard. Need social media accounts tho, post screens of good writtens and battles on Instagram with some tags and people will come along slowly but steadily. Video mags on YouTube, post it up on channels for hiphop and wherever people are freestyling in voice channels.

The difficulty for the future will be keeping them, shit needs a different morality or code in your vision, and what's ok/what isn't unless you want another NCs with the same 10-15 heads arguing and fucking with RIP-threads. You'll make some OGs hate you by doing so but the site will be healthy and a place for the next gen of text to grow.

Another issue to overcome is the usage of AI and how to combat that. The days of pure concepts and ideas from people minds is diminishing little by little, so I'd also look into AI tools to recognize the usage of them unless you'll allow that going forward.

There are plenty of other competitive writing outlets / websites available if you’re looking to write during the downtime.

They just aren’t rap forum related.

Any you know of that follow a similar format? I.e

Two or more people write something shortish about a given topic, others compare the entries and vote on which they liked best - with that feedback and others’ entries being available to read?

Nah, I was talking more like creative writing outlets where they set one topic and anyone / everyone writes and submits something and then they announce a winner (or top three?) then it repeats over.

The moderator(s) usually just declare who they think won.

Why?

Lol.

This makes absolutely no sense to me.

Cereal 02-12-2024 04:41 AM

respect thats why i love you

Objective 02-12-2024 07:47 AM

I agree with @Cereal with the hiphop aspect. Why? Unique writing format and culture that you don't see in other writing communities. 16 bars, focus on creative/unique styles and schemes, rules are lenient but still got to be up to par. More focus on actual content than having 100% correct grammar, slang/muddier language is accepted etc. It's its own thing and easier to get into but hard to master. In a way I guess you could say slam poetry covers this as well but it's not the same and it also lacks the audio portion of it all which I think this side and RB tend to disregard a lot.

sral 02-12-2024 08:46 AM

Do you believe you write verses that could be rapped to a beat?

No, cus that's not what I write it for but that doesn't mean there isn't room for those that do. In general on boards for text (mainly thinking about topicals now) the influences are different in this style of writing for the most part than what you find on other sites, and what people look for that sign up on those sites are different as well. It'll still be appreciated but in a different way, people miss out on a lot cus it's a style they're not used to etc. There also isn't much that covers text the way we approach it as opposed to people that focus on sonnets, limericks etc.

Competitions are set up differently as well, challenges tend to be personal and weekly/monthly or shit like NaNoWriMo. I've been on quite a few different writing communities from poetry to novels etc. It's just a lot more lenient atmosphere with text and there's more room to be creative, how people approach topics along with its execution and subject matter differs quite a bit everything considered.

I honestly believe text and with hiphop at its core has its own place in writing and has been heavily underestimated at its highest levels. Also not appreciated/discovered to its full extent by people outside of this bubble we've created.
