When I give feedback to someone who isn't very good, I try to use that to explain how they can develop their strengths by addressing their weaknesses. Let people know that they can get better, then give them a template to do it. Otherwise, you're just being mean.

if you're a shitty writer you should be told so

honesty

This and this are what I mean when I say you need to stress what even a not-very-good writer is doing right in order to get them to consider what you're saying they're doing wrong. If you're leaving feedback, the reason is to help the writer improve. Sometimes that means highlighting strengths. Other times that means pointing out weaknesses. Ideally, that means both.

Split 08-30-2013 01:26 AM

if the writer doesn't feel motivated to improve then who gives a fuck

this isn't daycare

let ppl speak their mind

Certain 08-30-2013 01:30 AM

So then what's the point of feedback at all?

If I notice a writer consistently not taking my advice, I generally start to stay away from their work entirely. There's no reason to not be constructive in your criticism. Saying "This was dope" and leaving it at that at least makes the writer feel good for a quick second, in theory. Calling a verse wack and leaving it at that does nothing, unless you've got well-established credentials and the respect of the writer.

I like excuses, too. I'll pull the Jordan and play until I win then never play again.

I enjoy your group's secret consortium of uber-intelligent familiarity. I got too close to the flame. I'll just take my Ruzzle dominance and feed the great open mics as they come.

Isn't that the Jerome Bettis?

YDK 08-30-2013 01:47 AM

Don't mind me guys I'm just posting to waste timd

PancakeBrah 08-30-2013 01:48 AM

Nah it was a reference to Michael Jordan's penchant for gambling. He'd lose in various games against various people. He'd just keep challenging for rematches through sheer force of personality until he won once, then he'd stop and say he's better.

It really doesn't apply to Ruzzlegate at all because I'm a pleb, but I liked the reference when I wrote it.

Wise Wiggles 08-30-2013 01:51 AM

The fuck is all this 'Ruzzle' business I've been noticing lately?

like a words w friends of some sort ?

PancakeBrah 08-30-2013 01:51 AM

Boggle with Friends, basically.
