YOU AIN'T GOTTA LIE TO KICK IT, DANCAKE
glad to hear I'm part of the NC white intelligentsia crowd, though. nah but it's a classic album tbh. I'm comfortable saying it now. had to build up the courage to call it so quickly, but it is what it is. I feel like people hear For Free and King Kunta and are turned off within the first 3 songs, thus missing Institutionalized, Alright, How Much a Dollar Cost, Complexion, You Ain't Gotta Lie, etc. Not a single subpar track imo, and as an album it flows well. MBDTF is an apt comparison in ways, just in terms of the grandeur of the album. But I personally thing To Pimp a Butterfly had more vision behind it, more focus, and overall executed pretty flawlessly. At once it sounds old-school and fresh, heavy undertones of jazz, soul, g-funk/funk, etc. It's been on heavy rotation at the oats compound, to say the least. |
It's definitely dope.
I cringed @ the Tupac interview if I'm being honest. I get what he's going for, and he's being earnest, but...idk. I 'u' is probably my favorite song of the year. Not hating it on it. Probably a 9/10 in my mind when it's all said and done. Just dunno about masterpiece. |
I'm still holding this jar of butterfly's wondering why I'm not making no fuckin money yet

I likes it.
BARS. SO MUCH BARS. DARK. BEE BOOP. DUUURRRMM. BARS. Maybe it's the fact I suffered through Mr. Wonderful's so-called rapping then went straight to a prime-Eminem level rapper. It's like, you know, if you live in Siberia then you go to Ohio. But Earl's better than Ohio so that's a bad example. Winter. I Don't Like Shit is more enjoyable to listen to than TPAB, I think. But TPAB will grow on me and eventually I'll be all like "TPAB is the year's best; the afrocentricality and tonal spread, not to mention the overarching THEMES really puts it in rarefied air." I probably will say stuff like that. But right now, IDLS > TPAB. Plus you like Doris and that's a horseshit ensemble album. This that straight Earl. WORD. |

I've honestly never listened to Earl Sweatshirt (when my old special ed students were in to it, I took it as a sign that I wouldn't/I'm an elitist asshole). Someone drop some links por favor
|
lol oats thats wild.
personally i think if you're able to cultivate a special ed fanbase you're doing something right. if only self-interested intellectual dickbags are tuning into your music what does that say about you? |
IT MEANS YOU'RE A GENIUS
lol nah that's an exaggerated statement, I took interest in a lot of shit my kids were into, just never expanded it to Earl Sweatshirt for some reason. I got some legit kendama skill though. |
this album is awesome
be alright, u, hood politics, for free, complexion, i dunno man. once you take away all the extra intense jazz filler and interludes its really not tough to listen to its just good music |
so much going on in here. im gonna have to give this a solid listen after all. probably tonight. dont feel like it now -since it seems you really have to listen to enjoy it. but if dancake says it has bars on bars on bars.. then i have to accept that. i trust his taste in music, as well as some others here.. if nothing else. i have a no from @uh-oh, whos opinion i trust -but knowing he doesnt like m.dot -it could be biased. so a yes from @Dancake will drive me to listen
i will peep |
